OK. I'll preface my comments by saying I have been one of the most vocal proponents of our coach and his style of doing things. That being stated, I've been privately concerned about his style of doing things. He's painted himself orange, been photographed in compromising situations, been divorced and remarried, openly supported a political candidate whom provided him housing (this is a big no-no, especially given his choice of politician), and apparently flaunted the recruiting contact rules AND initially lied about it: in five years....

And don't even get me started on the recruiting decisions...

I've always personally forgiven those in high-level, high-functioning positions for moral transgressions based on my belief that these same people must have the ego, libido, narcissistic tendencies inherent to even aspire to the the level of success they have been bold enough to attain. That is what men do.

That all being said, I'm more angry that Pearl and his staff were stupid enough to get caught, and in hindsight can see the carelessness exhibited in this whole ordeal displayed blatantly in their prior actions. All the coaches are doing it; ours are the ones caught red handed. Don't paint yourself orange if you want to exist in the gray area.

I'm now curious as to how the salary cuts and recruiting restrictions are really going to fend off the Reaper that is the 'AA. Infractions of the extent that were committed by this staff have already derailed the career of a coach and an historically relevant program in Indiana. Any missteps from here on out by Pearl OR any of his staff will result in unimaginable penalties from the governing body (which is, admittedly, a quagmire of unchecked bureaucracy) and set the basketball program back with far-reaching sanctions more damaging than the inability of the inept coaches that have exited stage left before

Two points

1. Haslam has nothing to do with Pearl's missteps. When did he give Pearl housing? The main person who complained about the endorsement had federal employees whose roll he buttered from oak ridge travelling around to all his events.

2.
Sampson is not even close to the same thing. He was a repeat offender. You can examine it yourself but the basics are easy to understand, if you are a repeat offender the NCAA will ruin you but you are not hit that hard on your first violation unless it is major.
