While UT has only one 2010=2 0commitment so far, I expect that to change in the near future. This new coaching staff has an awfully lot of recruiting momentum right now plus with spring practice starting on Tuesday you'll see quite a few prospects on campus for unofficial visits over the next 4 to 6 weeks. I would expect at least a couple of these prospects to end up committing to UT . Coach Kiffin said this staff would recruit the best players in America no matter where they were located. I would say right they are recruiting “the best of the best” at every position whether that prospect is committed to another school or not. In my opinion though, much of their “focus” at least for now seems to be on prospects in the states of Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and Louisiana.
Makes sense to me and here is why. Recruiting in state prospects is obvious plus 2010 is an above average year for in state prospects in the state of Tennessee. The recruiting analysts say there is an above average pool of Division 1 caliber 2010 football prospects in Georgia, Florida, and Louisiana at virtually every position. With respect to Georgia as with last year, it looks like Georgia will only have 15 to 20 scholarships to offer and they can’t simply take all the Division 1 prospects the state of Georgia produces.
Same with Florida and Louisiana , this simply another excellent year in Florida for high profile Division 1 football prospects… enough for everyone. In Louisiana, same song different year. What is different for 2010 though is UT made a statement by going into Florida and Louisiana and signing Nu'Kem Richardson and Janzen Jackson respectively. Ed Orgeron, Lance Thompson, Eddie Gran and Frank Wilson collectively are well connected in these states and my guess the staffs and each of these schools, while not intimidated at all by UT’s recruiters, have to be a little that UT will be competing with them for each and every high profile prospect this year and beyond.
