The Scout on Dye​

“Dye is one of the most physically gifted prospects in general in the 2025 class. I think when you look at his dimensions and we had the opportunity to measure him at the On3 Elite Series event last month. He is a unique physical talent. He’s around 6-5, close to 270 pounds. He has 35.5 inch arms and a 7-1 wing span. And at that size he moves really well. You watch him run around the field on Friday nights and he moves like a much smaller prospect. His pure physical tools immediately give him a ton to work with. He’s going to have the size of an interior defensive lineman but the athleticism of an edge player. I think he gives Tennessee a big time talent to work with.

I think the biggest thing with him is he is going to be continuing to improve as a player on Friday nights. There’s no doubt he’s one of the bigger freaks in the 2025 class. It gives Tennessee another top talent on the edge. I think that’s a position they have recruited really well under Josh Heupel dated back to James Pearce a couple of classes ago. We have seen that manifest on the field in Knoxville. They have continued that trend of getting these high upside physically talented edge players and Dye only continues that. What this commitment means for Tennessee​

There is no other way to look at this one, it is a crucial win for the Vols. Dye is a long time priority for Rodney Garner, Levorn Harbin and Josh Heupel, and he is a prospect that brings a different type of front seven defender to Rocky Top. Dye has elite measurables, including 35.5 inch arms, already weighs over 265 pounds, can play multiple techniques along the front and is still relatively raw in his craft. His floor is high and his ceiling likely even higher.

Off the field for the Vols, it gives you another blue-chip defensive win on the recruiting trail. Tennessee adds to an already strong trench class that features the likes of four-stars Ethan Utley and Charles House, as well as fast-rising New Jersey Edge Jayden Loftin. Tennessee continues to stack priority targets up front, and Dye projects as the crown jewel of what is on pace to be an impressive defensive front class for the Vols in 2025.

So what is next?​

As mentioned above, Tennessee has done a nice job in this class along the defensive front. The Vols are continuing to recruit four-star Bryce Donovan-Jenkins, and they would love to add him as an anchor on the interior with his 320-pound frame. Jenkins has eyed making a decision sometime in the coming weeks, and Tennessee remains in the thick of this race, along with Maryland and South Carolina.

Nah more like this once we missed on Gibson and Shanklin became a long shot we put the full court press on. I just never would have expected it to close so fast.
