Looking at the players different coaches got from the state of Tennessee because I see it get mentioned a TON! looking to see averages, seems like we never really built our teams all that much from TN until the Butch years, Fulmer fluctuated pretty heavily (from 35% of a class down to 4%). Butch was fairly consistent in taking guys from TN. and as you can see we didn't consistently just take from the top of the state either. (61 of the 180 top guys since 2002 33%) this is all 247 had the information on. if someone wants to go back further go right ahead. Not really making a statement here, just doing some research.

Fulmer:
2000: 6 of 26 players were from TN. Witten was the highest and the only one ranked at # 2 in the state. (23%)
2001: 1 of 21, Paul Monroe, unranked (to be fair there aren't a lot of ranked players at this point) (4%)
2002: 7 of 24, #1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7 of the top ten players (29%)
2003: 6 of 22, #1, 10 of the top ten (27%)
2004: 5 of 22, #2, 7, (22%)
2005: 8 of 25, #3, 4, 5, 7, 8, (33%)
2006: 4 of 22, #2, 5, 6, 7 (18%)
2007: 11 of 31, #1, 5, 8, 10 (35%)
2008: 4 of 18, #2, 4, 8, (22%)
So of the 211 he signed over that time frame (thats all 247 tracks) only 52 were from TN (24%)

Kiffin:
2009: 6 of 21, #4, 5, 8, (28%) Kiffin liked TN players more than Fulmer did

Dooley:
*I know he was brought right at the tail end of the Kiffin class but here we go
2010: 2 of 28, #1, 2 (7%)
2011: 7 of 27, #1, 2, 4, 6, 7, (26%)
2012: 3 of 22, #4 (13%)
Of the 77 Dooley is given credit for signing only 12 were from TN (15%)

Butch:
2013: 7 of 23, #5, 8, 10, (30%)
2014: 10 of 32, #1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 (31%)
2015: 9 of 30. #1, 2, 4, 7, (30%)
2016: 3 of 23, #3, 5 (13%)
2017: 8 of 27, #1, 5, 6 (29%)
of the 135 Butch signed 37 were from TN (27%). so he liked the TN players more than Fulmer did.

Pruitt:
2018: 7 of 22, #4, 5, (31%)
2019: 4 of 23, #5, 8, (17%)
As of right now (8/21/19) we are up to 5 of 15, including the #2 and 9 players (33%) obviously here no one has signed yet, but I felt like including them.

Players have wised up over the years and have attended more camps than they did in the past.Having an NFL team and NBA team in the state has not hurt either. The Titans and Grizzlies definitely has improved the gene pool.

There are more and more quality players coming out of TN as the state grows. Imagine that percentage will go up.

We lost some NFL talent for sure under the last 2....can't call the coaches..... just guys who got extremely over paid....

Don’t really give a damn. I just want the best players. Don’t care if they’re instate or not.

Agree. But people still freak out on here when we don’t land the states best recruits. Fulmer did really well in North Carolina and decent in Virginia. Why people think we need to be getting the states best players for no logical reason is baffling.

Throw stats out the window, just too hard to compare instate recruiting now versus Fulmer days.

1) Instate talent is greater.
2) A large portion of that talent is transplanted from other locations.
3)Program perception is at an all time low. We simply can’t cherry pick nor can we wait till the last second and have a kid jump on an offer like Georgia or Bama.

uh you know all those things should make recruiting TN harder now than it was for Fulmer? But the stats say we are actually doing a better job of recruiting the state. pretty much anyway you slice it.
