Is it worth considering that 3 of our most widely inconsistent and erratic players are the same individuals caught in the drug snafu last season? I'm the first to admit that all three individuals have talent and have contributed to some great wins in both seasons. I also find it difficult to believe that the suspensions last year have caused them to totally change their stripes. Careless and self abusive off court activities would explain a lot about about the no show performances in these players. One could make the argument that other players ie Pearl and .Mcbee aren't performing as well but they have about one tenth the talent as Tatam, Goins and BW.
We've all known coworkers that will have stretches of very poor performance on the job or just not show up at all due to personal behavior and abuses. I'm not making accusations and everyone deserves a chance at redemption. Just wondering if anyone else gets the same feeling about this. I know folks will say I'm digging up bones but I have to question the long term implications of bringing those 3 back especially in light of today's team. Does anyone else wonder with the talent that these 3 obviously possess, that if their day to day off court lives were more disciplined that this team is much better?

It might be a little dumb, but it does hold a little merit. To have discipline and respect on the court, your players should show the same discipline and respect off. That's not pointed at the players mentioned, but all the players in general. If you don't respect yourself, there will be a good chance there is no respect for your team mates and your coach.

Did you question bringing them back when Goins was hitting big shots in tourney or Williams was cleaning up on rebounds? How bout against Pitt or Nova?

Not questioning their talent and abilities. Just about not giving it up consistently. I think most would agree that this is the most frustrating and bipolar team they can remember. Play off the charts one day and couldnt beat the ladies team the next. Just speculating possible reasons.

I havn't heard anything bad about those 3 at all this year. And you can criticize players for not playing hard, but you can't criticize them when they give effort and have an off day. And I thought all 3 played hard today when I watched the game.

and kicking them off this late would be stupid. Your depth would be as deep as a kitty pool.

He referred to that.

Thanks livefaith. I'm not advocating their dismissal from the team. It's just when u take a hard look its difficult to see the kind of personality and work ethic from that portion of the team that goes along with winning championships. I think most folks would look at that group in comparison to say Tobias Harris and agree there is a difference. It is what it is though and er can just hope they can pull it together and surprise us all again.

How can you possibly know the personalities and work ethic though unless you are at practice everyday?

It is plain to see that these young men have lost confidence in Pearl. Consistency has to start at the top, and BP, through his "off court behavior", has failed this team. Coaching college-aged players has as much to do with inspiring confidence and desire than it does "X's and O's". In my opinion, this team played harder (and more consistently) for TJ than for BP.

It kills me when fans try to speculate on the character of these college age young men when they have no clue who they are, other than what they see on the court. Trying to tie in last years incident to inconsistent play is just stupid. One of my best friends is a Grad assistant on the team and has nothing but good things to say about the players. Do they lack effort and leadership sometimes? Yes, but that has nothing to do with how they are off the court cause from what I've heard from my friend they are all good guys. Don't take one instance from last year (especially when it was t. smith's guns and weed) and try map out someones character. Its not fair to the players.

We may not know the character of these young men but we do see their performance on the court. We know Pearls conduct off of the court has affected what goes on the court too. He lost this program two years ago, period. Last year was a fluke.
