FOXNews.com - Obama Administration Planning to File Suit Against Arizona Immigration Law

The confirmation comes after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in an interview with a TV station in Ecuador earlier this month that the administration would challenge the law in court, though officials had long said the issue was under review.

Administration officials initially would not confirm Clinton's statement. But an official told Fox News on Friday that while the review is still underway, the decision has already been made that a Department of Justice suit will be filed. The administration at this point is just building its case.

----------------------------

Clinton's announcement was met with outrage Thursday by Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, who signed the law. Brewer told Fox News she's ready for a fight.

"What a disappointment," Brewer told Fox News' Greta Van Susteren on Thursday, saying she was shocked the administration would make such an announcement on foreign TV without giving Arizona officials the news first.

"We are not going to back away from this issue," Brewer said. "We are going to pursue it, we're going to be very aggressive," Brewer said. "We'll meet them in court ... And we will win."

She added: "The population of America agrees with Arizona."

In the TV interview, Clinton was asked how the Obama administration was handling the debate over the law when she gave away what may have been an administration secret.

"President Obama has spoken out against the law because he thinks that the federal government should be determining immigration policy".

I thought AZ was only enforcing the law... not determining policy.

Good point.

Here is a funny letter I copied from another message board written to the communist idealogue Senator Tom Harkin:

The Honorable Tom Harkin
731 Hart Senate Office Building
Phone (202) 224 3254
Washington DC,
20510

Dear Senator Harkin,

As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.

My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to illegal alien stems from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill’s provisions is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it out. Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I’m excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.

Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local emergency room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped paying premiums for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save almost $10,000 a year.

Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her law school applications, as well as “in-state” tuition rates for many colleges throughout the United States for my son. Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden of renewing my driver’s license and making those burdensome car insurance premiums. This is very important to me given that I still have college age children driving my car.

If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illegal (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would be most appreciative. Thank you for your assistance.

Your Loyal Constituent,
Donald R.......
Burlington, IA

You thought wrong.

My bad... I guess I should have said that Arizona is the first state to propose a law that will enforce existing federal requirements that immigrants carry identity documents legitimizing their presence on American soil.

So ANY action to enforce it is automatically ok? By your logic, they could simply shoot anyone who looks Hispanic and doesn't have their papers.

You know, like the Nazis. (Cue Glenn Beck third grader logic here)

LG, I find you to be a likeable guy, and fairly intelligent, but I hope you are playing glorified devil's advocate on things of a political nature.

FWIW, I fly the Bonnie Blue Flag out front, to keep the hysterical bumpkins from feeling I agree with the lunacy .

Nah, he is actually thought right.

AZ is enforcing a federal law that Barack and the left does not like. (For obvious reasons) And it has nothing to do with their love for hispanics as people. Its their value in the voting booth. As long as they are in the country (legal or not) they will vote. He does not want that pipeline shut off.

Wow... is that what I said? I really appreciate you clarifying my post. Suppose I should warn all of my Hispanic friends to be leery when hanging out with me. I clearly have racial issues and apparently need some anger management classes.

That was a "Cash Villian" type response.

Can you link me the proposed enforcement standards that include the absurdity you just posted.

Secession is the answer, after a few beers I honestly believe that. And I'm still more in tune than LG.

You're pretty good at third grade logic, on a second grade level of course.

You must be wearing night vision goggles to detect that glimmer of intelligence.

Be sure and make that Tom and Jerry cowfart free ice cream.

That could be in the planet Zenon hand book.

It has been the law in America that all aliens must carry identification since 1940, the same as in most other countries in the world.

Classic...:)

I thought that letter was funny as hell also.

It is beyond me how the good people of Iowa can be fooled into relelecting Harkin to represent them in Washington over and over again, I just don't get it.

Huachuca City, Arizona Mayor Byron Robertson: "Last week... my police chief called me in and told me that an SUV-minivan had been stopped on I-10 with a 50-caliber machine gun mounted in the back and a rocket launcher."

In 1974 no one took the Algerian President Boumédienne all too seriously when he said to the UN general assembly: “One day millions of men will leave the southern hemisphere of this planet to burst into the northern one. But not as friends. Because they will burst in to conquer, and they will conquer by populating it with their children. Victory will come to us from the wombs of our women”.

Was it a Hummer? There's an Army installation there...
