burn baby burn! Only obama would blow the lead bush's idiocy gave the democrats.

Poll Shows Democrats Losing Their Edge - WSJ.com

Now, by a nearly 2 to 1 margin, independents said they would prefer Republicans to control Congress after November.

another interesting stat:

just 22% said they were "optimistic and confident" about his presidency—a 10-point decline from a year ago. By comparison, 27% were "pessimistic and worried" about his presidency, compared with just 9% a year ago, when many hoped he would lead the nation into an economic recovery.

also:

Moreover, Republicans are far more excited than Democrats to turn out and vote in November: 55% of Republican voters said they were "very interested" in the election, compared with 38% of Democrats.

If only the Republican Party could cut ties with the standard oligarchical label that infest most political parties as well as the religious zealots I'll get back on board!

I'll settle for cutting ties with religious fanatics.

In the end they haven't really. It's just they really do mke issues that have no business being controlled by the feds a fore front: Gay Marriage being a big one. I would list Abortion, but I really believe that is an issue beyond personal moral choice but should be left to the states as well. All of those should be left to the states to decide for themselves.

I hate to say this, but Obama was the best thing to happen to this country. I say that because he has awakened a lot to the reality that people are out there that want to destroy this nation. People that hate what America stands for and some of them are elected officials. We must not take our freedoms for granted.

What do you all consider a religious wackjob?

hard to quantify really, but you know one when you see one. being anti abortion doesn't put you in that category, but the ones protesting outside the abortion clinics tend to be in it.

I am as pro-life as anyone there is, I have never protested in front of a clinic but I don't really see a problem in someone peacefully doing it. I guess I am just trying to get clarity, are we talking Pat Robertson or anyone who believes in God?

It always appears to me people who seem to get it on fiscal and actual policy things usually real at religious and list abortion and gay rights as their two key grievences. I'm actually pro life, and really think it should be real real hard legally to get one after the first tri mester at the very least. It's just I'm really trying to find those who get it on everything else to just try to shore up the bleeding.

And yes: Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell are to me religious nutjobs.

To me, a religious nutjob is anyone who tries to legislate something with their only reasoning being their personal beliefs.

People's misunderstanding of the purpose of "One Nation, Under God" for instance. My father was 11 when that was instituted, but people seem to think that Thomas Jefferson was muttering those words as he died.

Religious matters, to me, simply should not be contested or contestable when dealing with matters of the Federal Government. The bedfellowing of politics and religion in this country has made me very uncomfortable.

You mean like all democrats who believe in the socialist doctrine that the federal government has the religious duty to micro-manage everything????

"The American people are losing confidence in Team Obama because quite simply they are tiring of being lied to, and treated like children in need of Ivy-League Platonic guardians."

...actually I love breaking it to you.. but most of the founders of our country would be considered religious nutjobs today.

I am honored to be in their company.

OTOH, if you mean blowing up abortion clinics, yelling at funerals of servicemen, then I also can't stand religious nutjobs.

But if you mean folks who have met Jesus Christ and are incredibly changed are nutjobs then count me in.

Many of them may have been religious but they tempered their religious beliefs keeping the best interest of the country in mind. They actually set up a system where one religious doctrine would not dictate to others and made sure that the government would not dictate religion.

Regardless of their personal beliefs... Madison and Jefferson adamantly separated the Church and the State.

Why is this such a hard concept for people? I don't care what you practice... just keep it out of State and Federal affairs. I strongly suggest you educate yourself on the opining of our "Founding Fathers", as you put it, before throwing them in with any religious boat.

The people of Virginia, New Jersey and now Massachusetts have spoken. More to come this November.

Some points.

1. Founding fathers were unanimous that they were forming a government with Christian principles as it's foundation.

2. None embraced islamic sharia law.

3. They would universally be appalled at current advances toward collectivist socialism which is being promoted with religious ferver by some.

Religion is not the only thing that pushes ones agenda.

Personal beliefs are pushed by the non religious as well.

pat robertson. i'm anti abortion as well and i'm not religious.

It's a odd (and a political tactic) that these two distinct ideas are related.

Being anti-abortion COULD be because of your religious beliefs but there are plenty of religious folks that aren't anti-abortion and plenty of basically non-religious people who are anti-abortion.
