Indiana beats Iowa

Apparently these are some of Kirk Ferentz's career records...

Iowa State 6-8
Northwestern 5-7
Indiana 6-6

He makes like 4 million a season and has a contract that runs through 2020 I believe.

They can't even fire him because they'd owe him a 20 million dollar buyout lol

Dude should have left for the NFL while he was the hot name.

He should make more money this way though. Iowa fans wanted him fired immediately but they can't since they owe him so much.

If he took an NFL job, he'd probably have already been fired and back at some other college without this kind of job security.

Plus, he takes advantage of Iowa if you ask me. All three of his kids have played football at Iowa and one of them is currently on the coaching staff. So while he's making 4 million a year, Iowa paid for all 3 of his kids college education and are paying one of his sons 6 figures to be on the staff.

Contract: 10 years $39 million, with all the incentives and bonuses added up.

Buyout: 75% of his remaining salary, paid monthly. Iowa would owe Ferentz a quarter-million dollars a month.

He's the 6th highest paid coach in the country behind, Saban, Brown, Meyer, Stoops and Miles.

In his 14th year, he has a 4-5 record. Remaining schedule is Purdue, Michigan and Nebraska. Best case scenario would be 6-6 in my opinion and he's coming off a 7-6 season last year. He was pretty close to being 2-7 this year. Northern Illinois was up 17-9 in the 4th quarter and Iowa scored the game winning touchdown with 2:15 left to win 18-17. Michigan State was up 13-6 and Iowa scored a touchdown with 55 seconds left to tie it. They beat MSU in double OT.

Yep, Iowa is stuck with this guy. They'd still owe him 3 million a year for the rest of the decade if they fired him. Staying at Iowa where they were willing to overpay him long term was the smart move.

I still don't get why he was held in such high esteem.

The Iowa team he took over was coming off a 3-8 season.

Ferentz's arrival...
1999 1-10
2000 3-9
2001 7-5
2002 11-2
2003 10-3
2004 10-2

Given how he turned that program around and having been an assistant in the NFL with the Browns/Ravens for 6 seasons prior, he was a hot commodity. Not only did he turn Iowa around but it's Iowa. If you just look at his first 6 seasons, that's impressive to say the least.

Actually, he almost had Iowa playing for a championship in 2002. They finished the season 11-1 with their only loss coming to Iowa State. Iowa was up 24-7 at the half and Seneca Wallace decided to go off. ISU outscored Iowa 23-0 in the 3rd quarter and beat Iowa 36-31. Iowa went on to get torn to shreds against USC in the Orange Bowl. But if not for Seneca Wallace's legendary performance, Iowa would have been 12-0.

First play they show is Bob Sanders(Indianapolis Colts) making a tackle. And Seneca Wallace started some for the Seahawks. Iowa's QB Brad Banks was in the Heisman running that season.
