Living here in Hoosier Hell I think it's funny they hired Sampson. First they all wanted Davis out and got thier wish, now they already want Sampson ran out of town...lol

Did you see the comments Ted Kitchel made? That was harsh.

I wouldn't be happy if I were a Hoosier either, but I'm happy I'm not a Hoosier right now.

Just goes to show what can happen when you want a new coach..well, one side of it anyway.

Kitchel says he wouldn't hire Sampson to coach his fifth grader. Sampson may not be who he wanted to that is over the top.
Hat has generally been more charitable to certain Volunteer coaches than that. :D

I hate to throw the race issue out but if Sampson was white I dont think they would be as upset.

Southern Indiana does have more than its fair share of gomers and bigots, but I think going outside the IU family to hire a guy with a lousy graduation rate and NCAA baggage is the source or their anger.

Over the top, but kind of to be expected. Kitchel and Randy Wittman were teammates and are extremely close friends. I take it as a guy sticking up for his pal. IU could have at least given Wittman the courtesy of a phone call.

As opposed to hiring who? Steve Alford??? Most overhyped golden boy knight on white horse coach in my memory. Sampson may not have been the best choice [Jim Larranaga, John Brady (esp. since his two young stars will be gone next year,) Billy Gillespie???,) when you are strictly comparing Alford to Sampson, Sampson is the obvious choice. I would even venture to say I would take Pat Knight over Steve Alford.

Being this board's resident Bob Knight apologist, I think Pat Knight is going to be a terrific head coach when he takes over for his father at Texas Tech. I'm simply addressing fan reaction in the Hoosier State. Alford is a legend to those folks. They would be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Sampson comes with no such inherent good will. Also, I love how everyone now acts like Jim Larranaga is suddenly the new Pete Newell. The guy has appeared in how many NCAA tournaments in a rather lengthy D-1 career? He is a solid, workaday coach. Any elite program who turned things over to him would be foolish. A good two week run doesn't suddenly make him better than he is. There's a reason that his resume reads Bowling Green and George Mason at his age.
