Indiana University adopts Student Athlete Bill of Rights

Personally, I think this is a great idea.

The ONLY problem I see here, is that the coaches had better be elite judges of talent and character, because if you sign someone up, and that someone sucks, or doesn't add a thing to the roster, too bad. You're stuck until they graduate. I'm not sure that's good for sports in general.

The realm of sports relies on competition. And while the players would be competing to be on the field or court more, they wouldn't be competing to stay on the team and stay in school. I feel like that takes a lot away.

I don't really know what I think. I think if this happened to UT right now, I'd be fine with it. Why? Because UT has coaches that I believe are superb evaluators of talent and character, so it wouldn't hurt us hardly at all. But would this have hurt us under Dooley? Definitely.

But I do like the idea of having players have a say in the hiring of a new Coach. And I do like the idea of being able to come back and finish your degree (which UT already does). But I don't like the idea of being stuck with a kid that just unfortunately did not cut it, despite his potential or his projected impact.
