Just a few minutes away from the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.

Favorites - Hornish, Castroneves, Weldon

Dark Horse - Vitor Meira

Sentimental Favorites - Al Unser Jr., Michael Andretti

Past Winners - Al Unser, Jr. (2), Helio Castroneves (2), Buddy Lazier, Eddie Cheever, Jr. (oldest driver in the field).

Well, ABC screwed the pooch again.

The Indy 500 is NOT being broadcast in HD! :banghead:

Unfreaking believable.

1st third of the race in the books

Weldon smoking everyone - yellow will bunch them back up.

Sixty or so good green laps before Schecter hits the wall.

Marco Andretti driving hard but on the edge.

You don't think people will be rooting for Danica Patrick? Like, say... ESPN?

I guess I'll be in Unsers' cheering section. When I was a kid I had a toy Al Unser car, at the time living in Indiana in the 60's he and the 500 was as big as the Superbowl.

Definitely - I just didn't consider her a legit favorite. The other choices (e.g. dark horse, etc.) were just my own personal choices.

I think Marco Andretti and Dario Franchitti are the two surprises so far.

Our local ABC affiliate just went completely off the air. Just a blank screen. :dunno:

Give'em Hell Hornish! What a finish!

What a run by Marco Andretti, helluva run for the rookie!

Great finish!

I think Kanaan could have held on if the yellow doesn't come out with 8 to go.

Hornish found some serious speed on that last lap.

I thought he was gonna win it. What a damn thing it would be, to see a 19 year old win the Indy 500. Amazing finish.

Hornish ran his fastest lap of the race (219.9 mph) on the last lap!

This is what makes Indy so special - it is the one race that so many want to win so badly. The winners always tell stories about how they've dreamed of winning since they were kids.

Even Kasey Kahne during his post race interview for the 600 talked about how much he's dreamed of Indy since he was a kid and wants to run the Indy 500.

One more about Hornish ---

This is the first time he's finished the race at Indy - 7 tries.

Like me. Damn skippy! She didn't really have a chance today. Rahal/Letterman is way behind Penske and Ganassi right now. And I think ABC was pulling for the Andrettis today if anybody.

She just caught a lot of bad breaks. She had no shot at winning that thing with the yellow flags being thrown when they were. I'm impressed she finished 8th.

She was 10 seconds behind the leaders on the track when she wasn't getting trapped in the pits, even then IRL has the astonishing rule where if you're a lap down you for some reason get waved around to the back of the field if the caution comes out. 6th to 10th is all that car had yesterday.
