Just wondering if any ya'll have been or are going? I have been five times total and will be going this year as well. It's such a blast to go. There is nothing like a car or cars passing you at over 220 mph. I can't wait to go this year and hear the new engine packages and see the new cars in person. (Personally I am not sure that I like the new car design). I will be excited to see which engine package holds up and which one doesn't.

I would love to go up for pole day some time and see all that comes along with that day but it's such a long drive and there is no way I could get off from work for both events

The guy that I go with is like this. He has been going since he was seven and has missed three. It's pretty awesome seeing some of his older race programs. His parents have been going since '86 and haven't missed a one

It's an event that's on my bucket list. Hope to see it live one day.

It's definately something you should cross off your bucket list. It's an awesome event all the way around. There are so many things to do in and around the track before the race. I would recommend if you ever get to go to the race to go to the museum in the middle of the track. There is plenty of history to check out including some NASCAR history and it changes every year

I wasn't a fan until I went to the race. I knew some the drivers just from watching sports center and stuff but after going to the race I follow it more closely now.

My dad has missed 3 since '58.

That is awesome. I bet he can tell some amazing stories!! Would love to sit and listen to the stories he could tell.

We've had essentially the same seats since then too.

My grandfather worked the gates to the infield before then as a captain and I have a great cousin or something who started selling programs at the 1912 race.

With this being the centennial years, there's all kinds of books out there about the history of the speedway.

Yeah the guy I go with bought some centennail book that is like 400 pages or something that has a ton of history about the track and the race. I don't know the name of it but it was pretty intresting what all the book had in it

Have been to about 18 or so. First was 1983. Graduated from infield to grandstands after about 6 or 7.

Still the greatest spectacle in racing - hope it regains it's true glory someday.

That's what some of the people I go with say. They say that the race is still an awesome site to see but that the split between IRL and CART really killed some the glory of the race. I am hoping that Indy car can return to those glory days and not have to worry about teams getting sponorship for the whole season

When you look at the history - particularly 60s through 80s - you see it was the big race and people from every aspect of motorsports dreamt of winning it.

I remember Emerson Fittipaldi crying about how he dreamt of winning it ever since he was a little boy - this was after he had won the F1 championship (which I'm sure was also a dream).

For a long time it was the single biggest race. It's still close.

I remember when there were NASCAR drivers (with open wheel back grounds) would try to run Indy and the Coke 600. That was a good time for the race too. The cars are so different now I don't think there is anyone out there that could pull it off. Maybe Juan if someone would give him and Indy ride.
