Danica ran well to get pole but it is really early on. Track will come in and the lap times will drop.

Hey doozer is my brain fading or is this the first time they are just setting the top 11 spots? What is the qualifying format now?

It's complicated. 11 spots today. 11 spots tomorrow. 11 spots next Saturday. next Sunday is Bubble Day. they switched formats several years ago to make it more exciting. it has and it will. problem was it has rained on pole day for that same amount of time. this year and last year were the last two rain free pole days. i can explane better when i get home.

It's a sad thing to see a mind go, I just didn't remember what they changed. I do remember something changing.

Thoughts on the new format.

1. Definitely exciting.

2. Favors the good teams - 3 attempts in a day rather than for the whole of qualifying means the good teams can knock out the other teams that might have gotten lucky on pole day.

3. I miss the decision making a team had to do on waiving off an attempt.

I like it too. There is stll a decision on waiving the first attempt I believe.

probably my most favorite qualifying day of the year.

It used to be mine when there were more cars. One of the most tense days in all motorsports. At least there are three trying to get in, without it being made up by Tony George like some years recently.

there may have been more trying to get in but they crashed yesterday.

There may only have been three, but the drama was as strong as it used to be. Hell of a drive by Buddy Lazier. Shows what experience at Indy can mean. I met his father when he drove at Mid-Ohio.

And Dominques, gave it all he had, a shame he had to crash, but they had the car with very little rear wing.
