I have been awake or semi-awake since 4:30 am. This has been happening a lot since I started on thyroid medication and other stuff. I am used to sleeping soundly through the night without waking up even once! If anyone knows any way I can get my sleep back, other than going off the meds, please feel free to PM me.

Please. :(

well in my psychology class..we get to sleep alot..And he always puts us asleep in like..5 mins..

sit up straight as you can take 3 breathe in..let them out slow..and then on the 3rd do it till you cant expand anymore...then let it out as slow as you can. dont know if it'll work...but it sure works for me.

Never fear, the doc is here! ha ha

2 ideas:

1) If you're experiencing side effects (insomnia, rapid heartbeat, sweating, trouble concentrating. . . .), your dose might need to be trimmed down a little bit.

2) For the short term, while adjusting to the thyroxine, you might consider a short-acting "sleep aid" such as Ambien. I'd talk to your doctor about that.

Hope this helps. Not really my specialty, but always willing to lend a hand,

KD

I am interested in this new sleep medicine Lumanest...I have always had a problem sleeping. I take a few things now but they don't help much. I keep seeing these Lumanest commercials and I want to catch the green butterfly too....

Are you referring to "Lunesta," OWB? If so, early research results look promising. It is being hailed as a relatively-safe non-benzo sleep aid that is marketed for long-term use. Ambien et al are usually indicated for short-term use (i.e. 10 days or less).

Yeah, Lunesta! I don't know why I keep calling it Lumanest. Maybe because I'm an idiot...maybe not. Anyway, I tried Ambien once and it didn't put me to sleep. It just caused me to lay there and feel paralyzed while I hallucinated. It was kind of fun, but not really.

Did you really have halluciantions from Ambien? That's a very rare side effect. Just making sure you aren't confusing it with some "other" medications.

Yes I really did and it was Ambien. I wasn't exactly seeing things that didn't exist though. I remember laying in bed and looking at my laundry on the floor (college) and it looked they were trying to creep up my bed. That night, I thought my dirty clothes were trying to kill me. :laugh1:

Sounds like sleep deprivation might not be your only problem.

Glad you had a good night. . . .and that I was (maybe?) any help. Oh, and no more blowin' kisses -- my wife is getting jealous! :naughty:

I'm sorry, KD. Please tell her I didn't mean anything by it and that I am old enough to be your mother probably.

Please. You know I was kidding. She pays about as much attention to my Tennessee message board as I pay to her fingernail polish.
