I'm sure volprof will come in here to prove me wrong (probably even has some other sorts of stats), but I just don't see how Carolina gets the majority like that. ECU, NC St and Appy St were a far more dominating presence just from a simple eye test. I was always amazed at how little UNC, Duke and Wake Forest stuff I would see in the whole state.

Even though the late 90's was a good time for us Vol fans here in northern Alabama, I've got to say I think I see more Vol stickers and tags now than back then. We Big Orange fans in Bubba land would love to help turn a few zips in Bama the right way.

it's based on facebook likes. is that a good measure?

It's better than some methods I've seen. When a paper or website takes a poll on fandom, as soon as a couple of folks become aware of the poll it simply becomes a contest to see which fanbase can drum up enough people to vote in the poll, usually more than once.

This is essentially just a survey of facebook users. Which is still a lot of people so it's a decent measure i guess.

I think a study of TV viewing would be more representative

But then you get skewed by cable vs broadcast, primetime vs early morning, etc. It's not a bad method, but I'm not sure that unsolicited facebook likes aren't more representative.

I'm sure there's a way to control for such variables.

maybe Florida does lead the state of Maine, but at only 8% of the vote, I don't think it matters significantly enough to color the zipcodes Florida blue.
