As most of you would expect, I was watching Texas Tech v. K State instead of UF-OSU. When the final score came across, Ron Franklin stated that a) that proves both Big Ten teams were nothing but hype, and b) the Heisman Trophy was a railroad job because Troy Smith didn't play anybody.

a) It may show that OSU was not as invinceable as previously reported, but I'm not sure what it says about the conference. Penn St and Wisconsin acquitted themselves pretty well, although their bowl opponents weren't exactly streaking. Iowa played a quality opponent well. Purdue stunk.

b) Who did Franklin think should have won the Heisman?

He didn't say who should have won it, he said there were a bunch of guys who deserved consideration. He seemed to be directing his ire at the fact Smith was annointed so early in the process.

Ron obviously knew the game was getting a .1 rating anywhere outside of Manhattan and Lubbock, so he went on an anti-Big 10 rant that the only folks watching in Big 12 country would obviously support.

It's great to hear an announcer speak his mind without using a bunch of cliches and coach-speak to try to skew everything towards the middle.

Good point... they did that last night without one of, if not the, best defensive lineman on the team.
