I'm the first to admit that I'm a bit biased against Tech. I've lived in Roanoke for most of my life, and all Tech fans seem to be able to do is talk sh!t about Tennessee.

With that said, SportsCenter just flashed up a statistic I found interesting, even a bit surprising.

Apparently, Virginia Tech is 0-22 against AP top 25 teams away from home. They've been rated very highly in the past 15-20 years, so the fact that they haven't beaten a top 25 team when not playing in Blacksburg is, to say the least, baffling.

it's laughable that people consider vtech a top 10 program. if his conference wasn't horrible there is zero chance he'd be considered an elite coach.

anyone know what Tennessee's record is under the same conditions?

Away from home would include neutral sites. Florida State was a top 5 team, so it's at least 1-Fulmer.

86 Sugar Bowl against Miami
90 @ Anaheim against Colorado, tie
91 at Notre Dame

He's been there forever and produced exactly one real title contender, and that was when Michael Vick was on the team.

IDK about elite coach but what was Va Tech before Beamer got there?

Only win being against Larry Coker's '03 Miami squad led by Brock Berlin who followed up with another loss at home to Tennessee.

They were looking to East Carolina for inspiration on how to build their program. It is truly remarkable how far they've progressed over the years, but they're certainly not an elite program, and never will be. I look forward to them fading back into the obscurity they came from as soon as Beamer's gone.

That 37-14 beatdown by the Hokies pretty much gives them all the bragging rights they want over Tennessee right now. I'm pretty sure if we lined up to play them tomorrow instead of the Ducks, the results would be about the same.

I can't stand VT, but Beamer can coach. His biggest flaw to me is that he lets so much talent from Hampton, Phoebus and the rest of Hampton Roads go to schools out of state.
