While the offense has seen most of the limelight this season, our young defense has played very well, despite replacing three regular starters on the defensive line and all three linebackers.

The Defense has allowed only one touchdown and 10 first downs in the fourth quarter of the last four games.

Probably the best stat is that so far, no quarterback has thrown for 200 yards or more, and no rusher has recorded 100 yards this season, except DeShawn Winn (104) for Florida. (knock on wood)

Vols D is very good. And worrisome for Hog fans. However, I wouldn't call Meachem "out of the Limelight." He is the real deal.

Anyone think we will see the "roving" d- line that chavis uses from time to time to confuse the o-line and QB?

you never know. arkansas' run game is too good to risk it in that game, but we may see it in the lsu game. i kinda doubt it though since the d has been pretty solid playing straight up. that and the chavis probably doesnt want to risk putting young d-linemen in bad position.

You're right. I misread. Vols have all the tools this year to be sure. To what do you attribute to the big turnaround from last season?
offensively, easy answer...David Cutcliffe. his presence is visibly noticeable in play calling and execution. and i think the WR's have responded to Trooper Taylor.

Defensively, i think we are getting what we expected finally...not a great, overpowering defense, but has played well enough. will get better with age.

Just don't run crossing patterns accross the middle.

I haven't seen our DBs play any man zone since the Florida game. They are either in complete cover 2 or they play straight man. That other stuff got us burnt in the UF game.

That's my beef. We go back to it, and back to it, and back to it (traditionaly in most years). Anybody that has ever been smart enough to watch game films of Spurrier picking us apart on the cross, also beat us with it.

I think it is a trust issue. If you have a young or unproven secondary, you are going to be reluctant to let them man up. However, cover two is going to give a lot against good passing offenses. That leaves the coach with no choice but to go with a gimmick defense and hope to cause the offense to make mistakes. It is a high risk, high reward scheme.
