Spending always has, and always will be, the root of the deficit problem. Federal spending should be dictated by tax revenue and priorities, not the other way around.

which is the point of the vast majority of fiscal conservatives. We have laws and credit ratings that hammer people and companies that manage funds (or lack thereof) the way our congress does.

Why worry about the books when you can convince the investors (ie tax payer) that the bottom-line doesn't matter? And compound the problem with the fact that over half of the "investors" don't actually pay into the system.

The whole scheme is beyond ridiculous.
