Louisville Coach Rick Pitino, whose Cardinals have outlasted the Vols in the final seconds in each of the last three years, was preaching patience to UT fans.
''You find ways to lose when you're young, and you find ways to win when you have a veteran team,'' said Pitino, whose Cardinals have won 15 straight.
Emphasizing that he wasn't being patronizing, Pitino called Peterson a ''terrific coach'' and said the Vols were simply going through the growing pains of learning how to win.
''I remember being in a similar situation,'' Pitino said. ''I was so frustrated the first year. We lost seven games under five seconds. The following year, we won seven games with less than two seconds.
''Everything goes right once you go through the experience. Unfortunately, you've got to go through this format. There's no worse thing than having a young team.''
