Interesting read on Dave Clawson

Bad luck of trying to implement a new offense with a coach on a short leash and no clear cut starting QB. He probably could have worked out under other circumstances, but it wasn't to be. If he had I suspect he was to be our next head coach after Fulmer retired.

I don't know why anyone would not want him to be successful; it's not like he was a jerk or pulled an LK or anything (that I know of). He just didn't work out here.

We were a Foster fumble away of starting the season 1-0 with a big win over UCLA. That hurt a lot!

My bro played for him and was same year as Kirwin Watson mentioned in the article. My bro chose them over Hawaii, Navy and Co. State due to the education.

When he was at Tennessee he gave us a tour of the facilities.

If you read the article, the common thread between all his successful stops is that his system takes a good 2 years to start showing success. I feel pretty confident that he would have gotten things turned about if he'd had more than a season.

And CPF would have not interfered and backed him up.

Phil hired him out of fear/pressure and didn't believe in the system. Believe I heard he overruled a lot and would call power

Yeah, that too. Clawson would tweek his system from school to school depending on talent, but it never looked anything like what was run here. My guess is him and Fulmer were more like co-OCs with Fulmer getting the final say on what was implemented.

Which is idiotic because Clawson's offense worked at every stop except ours. I'd laugh if somebody in our conference hires him. Fulmer screwed himself.

It would be pretty funny to see another SEC team hire him and see him take off there...as long as he never beat UT.

Fulmer still has nice things to say about Clawson, actually, at least in public. I don't think this is a Sunseri situation, though. He has to know he probably made a bad call in bringing him on at that time and that Clawson's a good OC given the time to develop players in his system.

20 pass attempts in the first half with Foster, Hardesty, and Creer at running back. He was a pass happy guy with a running back favored offensive personnel

I question his decision making.

If you talk to people who know him and know bios playbook, will tell you that what Tennessee ran when he was here did even begin to resemble Clawson's playbook. Fulmer took over the offense before Clawson had a chance to do a thing.
