I'm not sure if it will translate into wins and I know many out there have been wondering about the "best staff in the country" quote but this is something I found interesting.

Below are the number of years our new coaches have spent working with Butch as their boss. All told this staff has 34 years combined experience working with Jones as HC. That's an average of 3.4 years spent with BJ when counting all 10 coaching spots. I though it sounded impressive in the constant staffing turmoil you see these days.
It may mean little but they should hit the ground running if nothing else. As a side note Martinez and Jancek also have a number of years spent together.

Bajakian (OC) - 3 @ CMU & 3 @ Cinci
Jancek (DC) - 3 @ Cinci
Stripling (DL) - 1 @ CMU & 3 @ Cinci
Mahoney (OL) - 3 @ CMU & 3 @ Cinc
Elder (TE) - 3 @ CMU & 3 @ Cinc
Azzanni (WR) - 3 years CMU
Lawson (S&C) - 3 @ CMU & 3 @ Cinc

I am personally satisfied with the staff. They all know Butch Jones and his philosophy and Butch trusts these guys. They know the system obviously so I think that's a major advantage.

Honestly I like it that he has a staff the believes in him and respects him. Not only that the defense staff has 25 years of SEC experience between them which is great. We have SEC experience on this staff plus a winning mind set.

Those were not good years.

Overall I like the staff especially Thigpen, Stripling, Mahoney, Bajakian and obviously CJG. I'm lukewarm with Jancek at DC and not the least bit excited with the Azzanni hire from a recruiting standpoint.

Oh look you managed to find something negative...how original.

Just thought I would bring some reality to the party. See above for some positive spin. :lolabove:

By the way I was born and raised in South Knoxville so maybe that's where I get it. When your a Trojan in high school it leaves a scar.

I'm aware as are most. Good coaches have bad runs and sometimes become scapegoats for HC's.

This is true but they weren't scapegoats for Richt. New place new time and their roles have flip flopped so maybe we will get better results then UGA.That's why I'm lukewarm on Jancek and not blasting him.

I think Jancek somewhat was a scapegoat as CO-DC. Regardless we'll see. I'm good with people pointing out question/concerns. I've had my own this thread came from researching some of those questions. Is a stable cohesive staff better than a more talented but divided one? Idk guess we'll see. I certainly believe DD's staff was divided at many junctures and that didn't work out well.
I also think Bielema looks like the better coach on paper but he's not brining his staff, one can wonder why. Urban brought much of his staff up when he made the jump so there is positive evidence of it working.

its easier for a staff to teach systems to players than for a coach to teach a staff and players. It is a transition staff . The staff can be upgraded and refined in future seasons.

Like I've said overall I like the staff. Personally I like the CBJ hire better then Bielema. I've heard Bielema was an ass to work for so that may be some of his staff issues.

the fact that he has a staff that has been with him for several years is a huge plus, this was one thing that dooley didn't have and it would have benefited him a lot.

This means they can hit the ground running and not worry so much about training the staff before they can coach the kids.

the more I learn about CBJ and staff the better i feel about the hire.
I am starting to see a lot of potential.

I'm also lukewarm on Jancek. Hope he's tightened up his play-calling/coaching since leaving UGA. Outside of him as DC I'm satisfied with the staff right now. Bajakan, Martinez, Thigpen, Stripling, Graham all look like good hires to me. Now all I have to do is get over my worries about the offensive scheme working in the SEC.

If we have the players and good coaching it will work.

3.4 year average with just 6 years as BJ in HC role.

5 bowls

4 championships

Over 80% of their seasons were 8 wins or better.

They may not be all world but they've been doing solid work as a group.

And once that gets hooked up to Tennessee's excellent athlete pool, exceptional facilities, large fan base, world-class stadium, national TV exposure, conference strength and history, we might just have something here...

I'm most curious about Lawson. Most fans don't really understand the impact of the S&C coach.Hope he is a good one.
