You know, I enjoy surfing, playing games, etc as much as the next person but this is just getting ridiculous. I can only hope the US can escape this mentality before it's too late.

ABC News: Can't Stop Surfing? Rehab May Be Next

The college student, who asked that his last name not be used because of privacy concerns, said that he simply could not get off the computer.

It wasn't until his online obsession drove him to attempt suicide that Ben sought help at the Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery -- the only in-patient facility in the country that treats patients for Internet addiction.

"In fact, the person who is addicted to his or her computer is going to have the same 'high' as the drug addict who is about to go see their drug dealer," Camacho said. "Both are escapes from the real world."

"In the future we expect this Internet impulse disorder to grow," said Moore, who estimates that 15 million to 30 million people could be diagnosed as Internet addicts in the future.

I think if I were a crack addict in a group session for therapy and some guy said he was there for his internet addiction, I'd wanna pound his face in.

Let's just say for the sake of argument that I've tried several illegal drugs in the past. I'm guessing that my reaction to those was at least a bit different than the "high" I get from chatting with you guys. Hypothetically speaking of course.

Reminds me of the scene in Half-Baked where Dave Chappelle goes to a meeting and admits he smokes weed. He gets trashed!

I like that hypothetical.

If this results in them putting all computer supplies behind the pharmacy counter then I'm going to flip out!

Are there any legal ramifications on Gore for inventing something that has been determined to be addictive? :p

well, that wasn't really directed at the upper echelon of VN politics posters, I do know some rather intelligent people that believe it though.

People who go on these multi-day internet binges seriously need some help though.
