I voted in this poll on CNNmoney.com. At the time, it had 12,000+ responses. I can see where Obama gets so many of his fans from.

the raise taxes on the wealthy crowd are the ones who scared our forefathers to death, for a capitalistic representative democracy has to eventually capitulate to Paul and friends after having robbed Peter to pay them forever. There's just a point that Paul and Co overwhelm the Peters.

So you are saying the nation is doomed? It is inevitable?
it is inevitable. I don't think we have a pending meltdown out there, but the world's greatest civilizations have all followed a path very similar to ours. When individual responsibility left the citizenry in droves, the societies started their crumble and really couldn't stop it. Ours is headed that direction. That we're headed for second tierdom is not up for debate, how quickly is.

BPV you're a big thinker, I was hoping you would come back with something other than inevitable. It is a shame, how do you give people freedom and prevent them from abusing it more and more. Perhaps it is just human nature and not preventable.

personal responsibility is at the heart of the issue and our society has gone out of its way of late to remove it at every possible point. I think that's the beginning of the big slide. Prosperity, while great for us all, does have a downside. Laziness, lack of personal responsibility and entitlement mindset are all a part of it.

I don't mean to imply that the sky is falling as JoeVol the thinker did. I'm saying that great civilizations have a definite life cycle and ours is no exception.

The absurdity about Obama being elected accelerating that timetable is just ludicrous.

We have 2 major - related issues on the horizon.

1. Medicaid/Medicare - the costs and unfunded liabilities are growing at a much faster rate than the overall economy. Add to that demographic bubble that is just now moving into Medicare-land and we've got a doozy to pay for coming up.

2. Social Security is in the same boat but the costs aren't rising as fast a Medicare. These will both hit together though and demographics show there is no way to pay for these given the current approach.

All your irrational fears about Obama can be sumed up to: change. It's human nature to fear change. However, change isn't always a bad thing.

All I hear hear around here is "more taxes!! higher taxes!!! OMG! How dare Obama!!"

However, I hear very little about the price we are paying under Bush (especially the middle class). I hear very little about Mr. Bush has been the BIGGGEST SPENDER in presidental history.

We've been back pedaling and digging a hole of debt for so long, we've forgotten what needs to be done to mend it.

This current administration has essentially tried to get out of credit card debt, by opening another account and maxing it out. That's pure INSANITY.

And who's going to pay for all this BS?? You baby boomers aren't. No. You're trying everything you can to not take responsiblity. My generation. My kids generation. Your children, grand children, and great grand children will suffer.

Are you still mad about raising taxes?? Don't blame Obama. Blame those who created the debt, not those trying to deal with it.

You are deaf and blind then, the biggest repubs and conservatives on this board nail him on this issue frequently.

I do blame Bush.................

:eek:k:

Both Obama and McCain firmly believe that government is the answer for every thing.....

That is frightening!

Again with the irrational fears label? Have you looked at the analysis of the candidates plans by the Tax organization? Both candidate's plans will RAISE the deficit. Why? Because they are both big spenders.

It's not a matter of blaming Obama. However, I'm certainly justified in being concerned over the impact on the economy that Obama's policies will have (I believe they will be negative) and his entitlement mentality. Put these together and his tax raising does nothing to reduce the deficit - it simply transfers more money to the government. Ironically, that's not CHANGE at all!

those programs will change dramatically as we age. Those relying on them are going to have to work longer to make them reality.

We currently work 100 work days out of the year for the government.............

You think that will decrease?

Yea, they'll get worse. The issue of us living longer and doing so in a more unhealthy manner is costly. In a less developed country you would just die more quickly of a disease. In America, we have medicines and technology to prolong it much longer.

Something will have to change dramatically but those who will receive these entitlements will also represent a substantial voting block - the AARP will be a force
