Apple folks...

It finally happened, the screen cracked on my old iPad 3. I've got two questions: I can't even enter the security code because the touchscreen is cracked. Is there any way to retrieve the data without having to fix the screen first? Can you still sync it?

I called CPR @ UoT and they want $100 to replace the glass. I'd rather spend the $100 towards a faster model than drop it into an old, under-performing iPad. Do you guys know anyone that will repair ipads for cheaper or should I just take a chance at repairing it myself?

Everything on there should be backed up to your cloud already. When's the last time you did a backup?

I don't know if you have the ability but my son 15 yo at the time replaced his own screen on his phone for like $20. He bought a kit off Amazon and followed a YouTube video instructional. If you could do that you could salvage your data and then sell the old one an recoupe your $20. Come to think of it, wouldn't an iPad bring $100 so you could recoup the $100 from having it professionally done?

You should be able to connect it to iTunes on your computer and pull a back up. Assuming you have connected it before. Other wise you may need to unlock it.

Then when you get a new iPad just connect it and to iTunes and restore from the back up.

I think the 9.7 iPad (not the Pro) is down to like $349 now.

Everything should be in iCloud. Buy a new one, log in, and everything should be there.

Then, take the old one and shoot it. That's what I did with my 08 MacBook Air. It was quite fun.

Well, after some finagling I was able to actually log in and upload the photos I had on it to the cloud. I guess the few games I played should be backed up on Game Center, right? I read some info about replacing the screen. Most reviews I read about the replacement screens say you're likely to get a generic replacement screen as opposed to actual OEM glass.

Just buy a new one and recover your last backup.

When you get a new one, go to Apple.com...Store...Refurbished. I get all my Apple stuff there and save 15-20%. Same one year warranty as retail box and you can buy Apple Care to extend if you want.

Its such a great place. There's literally no reason to not buy an Apple refurb if they have the model you want and you want to go direct from Apple.

It's new but it's the old model. I'm sure it will suit your needs

Seconded!

I'm still rocking an iPad 2. It's pretty slow but I barely use it outside of reading some books.... (ok comic books) and I occasionally stream movies to the ATV from it.... and some kid friendly apps for my kids.

I really want a new 10.5 iPad Pro with the pencil. IOS11 makes it much more MacOS-like so I could actually some work on it.

Fair point. I'd prefer 64GB over the 32GB though and that pushes it to $379.

How much would you guys spend on a used(in good condition) iPad Air(A1475) with 64GB of memory?

Check the averages on Swappa. That will give you a good ball park.
