Two IRS agents, ~$25/hour per agent
Gas burned to pick up money, $3.00/gallon
Paper used for documents and forms, $.02/copy

Yeah, government efficiency at work.

3 years ago they sent me a letter asking for $0.34. That was after they sent me a letter saying I was being audited. In postage alone they spent $0.56 getting my $0.34.

I guess you really can't blame them for not trusting anyone that lives in Bama.:hi:

I got a letter about the upcoming census in the mail last week, letting me know that I should expect a letter for the census in the near future.

I cant thank em enough for the heads up.

When I read that letter on Monday, all I could think about was the money this country was wasting.

Yes and no. If it improves the response rate it's much cheaper than sending live people to get the info. The heads up letters may actually reduce the cost to conduct the Census.

The ads and letters are over the top and I laughed when I got the letter saying I would receive another letter, but I see volinbham's point. That's probably a lot cheaper than sending people out to every home and asking "Are you so-and-so?"

And what's more invasive? 2 letters and some stupid commercials? Or, a house visit?

If I'm going to ignore the official census form, a letter a week ahead of time is not going to change that.

I don't get this. It's like not voting. You won't be helping your situation in anyway by not participating.

I'm going to tell them there are 30 people living in my home without health care, food, or other basic necessities. :)
