Is Ainge really a white homie? I heard the CBS commentators say that once Cut came, he told Ainge to turn his hat the right way, take out the rocks in his ears, and something else.

Sorry, I don't have much respect for people like that... GO CUTCLIFFE!

ya, he wears his earrings, n hat backwards. my friends that go to school there said when he first got there, he thought he was the "stuff". i've heard he likes the bars (or use to before Cut came), and dressing w/ baggy shorts and shirts.

He is 20 years old, of course he wears his hat backwards and likes the bars. If he did not do these things, I would have serious questions about him.

Granted, I think it was wise of Cutcliffe to tell him to change his appearance, but I think it was less about the change on the outside than about the change on the inside that Cutcliffe was about to inspire. Had Ainge thrown for 3,000 yards in 2004, I am positive that Cutcliffe would not have made a statement to change his appearance.

Yep . . .

Guy with baggy pants and earrings who completes less than 50% of his passes "lacks focus".

Guy with baggy pants and earrings who throws for 3,000 yards is a "free spirit".

no no i understand that cause i wore my hat backwards n had earrings when i played basketball in college. sure i went to the bars and places like that, but during season that was a whole diff. matter. i wouldnt drink during season, nor would i attend the bars, because if a fight broke out and i was participating in it, i would be suspended if not kicked off. what was meaning was i heard ainge would go out everynite, including the nights before a home game, and get hammered. this info comes from some very reliable sources, who actually hang out w/ ainge. so last yr his priorities were not straight

If Ainge went out on nights before homegames, in which our players stay in a local hotel, then I would have to blame the coaching staff for negligence...

I beleive Cutcliffe is the one with the good point. It is about making the young man understand who is in charge. I think whatever Cutcliffe has done has really helped Ainge so far.

no problem with the whole getting your priorities straight thing...i just don't think how a guy wears his hat or if he has earrings or whatever has anything to do with his capability of playing football.

Now, none of that stuff is my cup of tea necessarily...personally i think the baggy pants and earring look is ridiculous, but to come on here and say (not you) that that's the reason for the turnaround is ridiculous...now the elements of the overall philosophy Cut is instilling...discipline, hard work, being smart etc...that's great...just don't tell me that since Cut got him to turn his hat around and take the earrings out that's what did it...

I'm not closely tied to the UT program, but I know a few folks who are, and the thing that I kept hearing over and over again was how undisciplined these guys were, both on and off the field.

Cutcliffe apparently decided that if his #1 guy was going to be any kind of leader, he'd need to lead by example, both on and off the field. Thumbs up to Cutcliffe for this move. The lessons he's teaching Ainge will help him regardless of whether he goes to the next level in FB or ends up in the real world. He's helping build character, a nearly lost art in these days of college FB.

What are your alls thoughts on players staying out till 2 or 3 on the Thursday night before a big game on Saturday? Should coaches put limits on when players can go out or is it simply a matter of the players making the right choices?

Cutcliffe is trying to instill some discipline and respect for authority. They need boundaries and limits.

Staying out till 2 or 3 is excessive. How do u get up and go to class the next day on that schedule?

^^^ so basically, if someone has his hat to the back, baggy jeans and earrings...they aren't worthy of being judged by their actions. I think that's a bit narrow minded:twocents:

Show up for a professional job interview in that outfit. He is just showing him who is in control. Nothing wrong with it, seems as though his methods are working so far, as Ainge is head and shoulders above where he was last year.

1. no one is saying that you should show up for a job interview in the same clothes that you'd wear when you were out with friends.

2. it's fine that Cutcliff is instilling discipline in him, shoot he needs to instill some more for the gator chomp bit on the sideline sat. night.

3. my problem with the comment is that the poster of this thread doesn't respect someone because they dress like any other kid(college or no college). it seems to me that WHOEVER should be more concerned about how a person handles himself instead of immediately judging someone. At that same interview you spoke about earlier, try answering the interviewers question(s) before he/she speaks and let me know if you get that job:thumbsup:

or maybe his dress wasn't appropriate for coming to practice or a film session. i guess the same way you wouldn't wear an easter outfit to play pick up basketball or lift weights. I would say that coach Cut respects all of his players reguardless of what they wear. The thing is when they step on the field they better be right. You guys can assign your prejudices to him all you want but the coaching staff isn't as dim as some of the people who pre-judge 18-22 year old young men.
