Is basketball the easiest sport to rig?

Always thought it was after the Kings/Lakers and Heat/Mavs. The more I watch it, the more it looks rigged at times.

Mavs/Thunder the other night. 10 ft's for the Mavs, 33 for the Thunder. Thunder win 95-91.

Just watched Iowa/Illinois. 0 ft's for Illinois, 19 ft's for Iowa. Iowa wins 64-61.

I always thought Ohio State(w/ Oden) against Tennessee was rigged and the Bulls vs. Pacers in the playoffs last year was awful too. You can't even stand next to Oden or Rose without getting made up foul calls. The calls are opposite the other way. Something has to give because this is bogus.

Ironically, Donaghy went to prison after reffing the Lakers/Kings and Heat/Mavs playoff series. Was so rigged... don't think anything has changed. Some games are just so bias it's not even funny.

Baseball is much easier to rig (having umped it for five years and done a few basketball games as well).

When You're behind the plate you can do anything you want and it's much more of a "judgement" call than basketball, because some fouls and calls are just obvious. But you can always let an outside pitch be a ball until the very last strike you want to call.

Depends on which angle you are looking at it from.

Boxing is the easiest. One person can laydown on any punch.

Any sport that has a "driver" can be thrown. Golf, NeckCar, IndyCar

As a player/participant in a TEAM sport, it is tougher than hell to rig a game, unless you are a quarterback or a pitcher.

As a ref, Basketball has contact on almost every play. It is a full contact sport, and it just depends on how you want to call it.

Baseball is pretty tough because you can get around a bad umpire by hitting anything that looks close.

I just coached in a Jr Pro Basketball tourney where my best defender and top rebounder fouled out of all 3 games. In the Final, the first 3 fouls on her were touch fouls, where it is debatable if she even touched anyone. But the fella coaching the other team is also the guy that sets up the refs for the league. He also refs HS games, and is a very good friend of mine. . . . . but I think the game was officiated so that he would win.

It can be rigged easily, but often when there are disparities in FT's, it's usually because one team slashes and the other doesn't. Which explains why the Mavs suffered a lot of FT's at the hands of the Heat and the Thunder.

That being said, they call way too many fouls, either way. Let's hand out technicals to floppers, and fix the game.

Baseball, b/c it's so easy to say "oops, my bad".

i.e. The perfect game taken away last year on a clear "out" throw to 1st.

The Thunder don't/didn't drive all that much more than the Mavericks. Thunder shot 6 more 3's and the Mavs had 63 attempts inside the 3 pt line with 10 FT attempts. The Thunder had 49 shots inside the 3 pt line and 33 FT attempts. Sure there's a a difference between the teams in terms of driving vs. Jump shot, but they're not as different as everyone assumes.

Here's the shot chart: Dallas Mavericks vs. Oklahoma City Thunder - Shot Chart - March 05, 2012 - ESPN

Don't feel like starting a new thread for it, but it appears a story might be about to break concerning an Auburn basketball player accused of point shaving. I know, the obvious thought is "why in the hell is someone from Auburn shaving points, they suck." Nonetheless, it's out there.

Edit: Just seen the thread that someone started.

No one can ever convince me the kings-lakers series, and especially the 2006 finals weren't fixed. Wade shot more FTs than the entire mavericks team, then an uncalled backcourt violation before he made the game winner. I think since that ref went to jail it happens less often.

Is there any team sport that would be hard to fix? I'm thinking any thing can be fixed. Felt this way for a long time. Too much money passing hands in Vegas.

Every time I see Greg Anthony in those March Madness commercials I think about his 1991 UNLV team throwing that Final Four game against Duke.

Baseball should adopt a replay system that is similar to the NFL. Let the managers challenge calls instead of these silly long arguments.

And, there has to be a better way to review calls than three umpires, often out of shape, lumbering into a dugout to look at a monitor.
