I know it is early, but this guy is bringing the heat.
At one point some of us thought,(including me) that he was a fall back for his spot on this staff, and maybe he was. He has exceed my expectations as a recruiter so far, and based off his credentials, and current standing here, he seems to be a heck of a coach. No slight to O, Thompson, or LK, but at this point IMO he is doing as well as anyone at bring them in.

Also, he sounds like a very humble, and classy man, with great character and morals. Which I believe goes a long way in recruiting players to move from home, away from their families.

Hears to you coach Gran, Great job, and an even better job at doing it the way you do. Im glad your a Vol.:hi:

I think right now he is. It may be because of the area he recruits, but he has produced the commitments. Orgeron has been a tad bit overrated of a recruiter, commitment wise, as of right now IMO.

He is awesome. They all have their strengths and one year it might be Gran, or the next it could be Chaney or the year after it could be Orgeron.

Pretty cool if you ask me.

The state of Florida is loaded with top talent, so he doesn't have to look to hard.

But he is also fighting the instate pull of UF/FSU/and Miami. Not to mention, Bama, AU, UGA, and the other top programs in the area. He is fishing in a big pond, loaded with big fish, must have Bill Dance as his guide.:)

Guys he is awesome!! He is a great recruiter and must be a pretty good position coach lets dont forget he was at UA when Cadillac and Ronnie Brown was busting our chops. I am not taking anything away from any of the other staff though. Most of all CLK it takes a real man to take less pay for himself to hire the all star staff and get them more money. So with the way they are recruiting and the way they are hard core coaching all these programs like Bammer and Gators better take their shots this year cuz the ORANGE SWARM is coming for that A$$ in the next couple of years

Didn't he get Brandon Jacobs, Cadillac and Ronnie Brown to commit all in the same class? I hope he can stay at UT awhile.

Rudi Johnson was Auburn

I have previously said I felt he was, still do and here's why: He and O are both excellent, but I give the edge to Gran because 1) He is better at getting recruits that play positions other than what he coaches. O is very strong recruiting D lineman but Gran is better recruiting all positions. 2) Gran is very well respected as a Christian and a great family man. No disrespect to Coach O at all but he can come across as quite abrasive to some people which can and does make a difference in some cases. Case in point, Palardy the nation's top kicker specifically pointed out what a good Christian / Family man Coach Gran was. Also stated that his parents knew he would be in good hands and be taken care of with Coach Gran. This faith and respect in a coach should never be taken for granted when it comes to recruiting. It's crucial.

All the coaches have been great but I agree coach Gran has been magnificant for us. To me I think it's been a team effort by the coaching staff. Go Vols.

Anthony Johnson would be Wilson/Orgeron..

Thompson had a part in Ambles as well

I still think Cregg could pull Uko, Ronald Powell, Josh Shirley and Dietrich Riley to be in the lead as best recruiter. If he gets even half that haul he is the surprise recruiter of the staff.

Kiffin said he would get a whole staff that can recruit and coach and he is doing it.

If we pull Uko or Powell it will be because of Orgeron. If we get Riley or Shirley, it will probably be because of Monte, but Orgeron's Cali connections will help as well...

I think Orgeron is our best recruiter. As much talent as FL has this year, there is no way that it all can all go to Miami, UF, and FSU. Let's be honest here with Gran's recruits:

- Jose was not recruited by any of the FL schools...
- Jones was being slow played by Florida and FSU has other players they are looking at ahead of him...
- As for Ralph Williams, I'm not sure he would be a Vol if Monte wouldn't have visited his school back in the Spring. That visit really sold Williams on the Vols...
- But Palardy is 100% all-Gran. Gran developed a very good relationship with him and deserves every bit of the credit as the special teams coach...

Gran only recruits one state. That is pretty much it. Orgeron is UT's lead recruiter in Memphis, California, Arkansas, Illinois, Mississippi, Louisiana, and with all of the JUCO and Prep players. He has so many more kids to recruit than Gran. There are only so many hours in the day. Orgeron has to build relationships with kids from all over the country while Gran can focus on a select few mainly in South Florida...

A good way to find out your true opinion on who's the best recruiter is ask yourself one simple question. If Gran and Orgeron switched jobs and responsibilities, who would be doing better? That answer should be fairly obvious...

Agree 100%, and this was Coach Fulmer's strongest selling point.

We need to keep coach Gran around for as long as possible. Good man, great coach, outstanding recruiter. He is unquestionably a huge benefit to the program. Kind of funny in retrospect that he wasn't our first choice... although Rodney Garner isn't shabby either. But Garner is more of a georgia recruiter than florida recruiter I believe.

One thing you guys need to remember about Gran is the fact he recruits probably the most talent rich state in country and has for years. It's kinda hard to compare the other states really in terms of talent. Not saying Cali or Texas is a pushover, but Florida has more talent IMO.

Correct. Garner could have by himself buried GA as a competitor of ours. Jamal Lewis, Cosey Coleman etc were Garner gets. He is the best recruiter far and away on Richt's staff. Gran seems awesome, but Gran would have changed the competitive balance in the SEC east because we would have beaten out UGA whenever we wanted to for the best Atlanta area prospects.

Garner working for Fulmer and not Donnan is why Donnan was fired and was a major contributor to UT's NC.

I agree, florida is #1 in talent. The thing about Gran, he doesn't just recruit florida, he is successful in recruiting florida. i.e. we're taking kids that the top programs want, not just landing kids that are available playing the numbers.
