First off, wanted to say hello to all. I'm a new registered member, but have been reading for awhile.

Second - I've done some pretty extensive searches, but it brings up a lot of post from late last year. I have heard rumors from those close to the team that this will be Fulmer's last season - even if he doesn't lose another game.

Has anyone else heard this - I can't say that I want a new coach after the rebound of this season.

Welcome to the board.

I have heard it both ways. One side says CPF's buyout is so much that the university can't afford for him to leave. Another side says big time donors are tired ofchampionless seasons.

Who really knows?

If the rumors are true, David Cutcliffe will be the new Head Coach and he will run the O while Chavis runs the D, kinda like a split head coach, Steve Spurrier kind of thing.

I mean I think Cutcliffe would do some things different than Phil. There will be a hell of a lot more disipline around Knoxville.

Unless Bob Neyland is coming back, Phil aint going nowhere!

I can't say that I would be too disappointed if it were true.

Welcome to the board and don't believe rumors. Like it or not, Fulmer isn't going anywhere next year.

I think we would be a better prepared team, a team that wouldnt quit if Cutcliffe took over. Cutcliffe would be mentioned in the same sentence as Charlie in ND and Spurrier.

I dont think it happens until we have another 4-5 loss season, though. But I wouldnt be surprised if one of the things they told Cut to get him back was "youll be head coach in the same city you live in after the next bad season"

I really do not see Phil going anywhere if we even lose 2 more games. I think Phil will be here for about 3 more seasons then retire. Thats if we dont win a championship, if that happens I think he will stay longer. And honestly I think we will win a SECC in the next 2 years.

Not that I have any belief in the aforementioned rumor but if Phil ever leaves and Cut becomes head coach.... the Vols may be in trouble..... Cut is a pretty good coordinator and a good QB coach however he is not a really good recruiter. And everyone given that Tennessee is not historically a mecca for recruiting then the HC would need to be a great recruiter

So, while Mike Hamilton strikes everyone else he has ever had an encounter with as a very upfront and upstanding kind of guy, you think he is in fact backstabbing and shady...

I believe that Cut would have turned down the OC job had Hamilton even mentioned getting rid of Fulmer in the near future.

"They" told cut? Just who are "they". CPF is the man who went after Cut in the first place. geez

CPF will get no credit from some for making the changes necessary to right the ship. I said that earlier this year and some on here are making my prediction true. Nothing CPF does will ever be good to some. But the majority know better. :salute:

I have heard that Cut was essentially offered the head coaching position without officially being offered the head coaching position. It was my understanding that he let it be known that he would not take the job if it meant Fulmer leaving before he was ready to leave. These guys are friends...so I don't think that he would take a job under Phil just to sit and wait for him to make that next big mistake. Of course, none of this is from Cut's mouth...but it is from the mouth of a family friend.

The 'ship' may have the holes patched up, but its a long journey! Is this boat truly seaworthy?

I am going to go ahead and scream "shenanigans!"

I believe that Cutcliffe realized he is not suited to be a HC from his tenure at Ole Miss...why else would he sign on for an assistant job under Weiss at ND? He had to know that Weiss would not be walking away anytime soon and that if Weiss was fired there was no way Notre Dame would then offer the head job to one of the assistants that Weiss brought in. He did not pursue any head coaching positions anywhere after he left Ole Miss.

Also, this whole scenario is just backwards. If Fulmer brought Cut in, and UT did not improve (therefore forcing Fulmer out,) do you honestly believe that Hamilton would give the job to Cutcliffe? In that scenario, you would have to say no since Cut's offense could not help the team. Last, Cut and Phil are pretty close in age (Cut is 50 and Phil is 56.) By the time Fulmer is ready to "just walk away" I do not believe that Cut will be far behind him in walking away.

Come on folks, do we have to do this this week????

Now I'll have to listen to some ESPN announcer crank on us this weekend for still being after CPF's head 'on the message boards'...

*side note. I remember a conversation Mark May was in this past weekend where I'd swear he'd been reading our threads the week prior....
