Watching LSU-Georgia, and I noticed some things, and I just have to wonder (guilty of this myself) if we pay too much attention to dissecting our team.

Exs:

-Mettenberger (sp?) just threaded one to Landry. Worley likely wouldn't have been able to make that throw, but on the flip, we'd see that play, and scream about how our LB and secondary is leaving WR's open over the middle, yada yada.
-LSU RB just waltzed into the endzone against UGa at home untouched. If that happened to us, we'd be screaming about Jancek's play calling, our D line, our contain, etc.
-LSU earlier allows UGa go get a TD at the end of the 1st half after a Pass Interference call in the endzone. Mental & discipline mistake, right? Like some of ours? Yep, but when we see us do it, it's "Damn, isn't Martinez coaching these guys? We just don't have the talent or scheming."
-LSU just roughed the passer--> half the distance to the goal in the 4Q of a crucial tied game.
-LSU timeout after some confusion on offense. Announcer just calls the series "discombobulated." We'd have Jones plane ticket booked if that were us.

I'm sure I could pull out some more, but basically, my point is we dissect our games, every block, every throw, every route, every tackle, angle, everything like a surgeon. I do this too! And we flame our team, and we say LSU and Georgia will kill us. But, these teams aren't perfect either! But, they at this point, simply have more playmakers, talent, depth, and time in the system, which leads to more discipline (despite that they still make mistakes). But, if we deconstructed their games like ours, and with as much passion, sure we'd be happier with the talent and outcomes, but you can be sure we'd be screaming, "What is Richt teaching them? This ___ is killing us!" yada yada

At the end of the day, I think we need to keep a couple things in mind for our own sanity:

-We have a lot of building to do from a playmaker, talent, and depth standpoint, as well as more learning to do. And we will have more time in the system, which will lead to better execution.
-We're not the only team with turnovers, penalties, missed assignments, lost contain, etc. In fact, every Sat., teams we want to become in the future have these very things happen! They just have ways of covering up for it. Our margin for error is minimal. That is not all on coaching.

Patience sucks. Saturdays have become painful. But, we just need to snap and clear. Hopefully, unlike in years past, we will see improvement from week to week. More troops will come in next year. Hope to improve some more then as well. Otherwise, I dunno what to say.

Yeah, you can look around at all teams and see terrible and undisciplined play. The difference is their level of talent allows for much more 'mistake' room. We have to play pretty dang perfect to win against those teams.

Agree with this and the only way it gets fixed is with recruiting. My opinion is it will take 2-3 recruiting cycles to even start getting close to the talent of the other teams in the SEC.

I do know that both of those defenses looked pretty bad. There were blown coverages all over the field and lots of miscommunications between safties and corners.

It is because we care. When you see someone else's kid being dumb, it doesn't concern you as much as your own seed.

You guys kind of hit on my points. I mean, I want to see us play better, don't get me wrong. But, I just wonder if we're overanalyzing and being too critical because we care, and thus everyone else looks "great," and we look so "bad." When, I bet if you talk to an LSU fan, they'd be like, "This guy missed this block and that guy took a bad angle. Don't know what Chavis is doing...yada yada."

And the other gent hit on my other point. We don't have the playmakers (Mettenberger and Hill on LSU; Murray and Gurley on UGa, et al), overall talent, and depth of talent to cover them up (or come back in a big way from them).

Let me first say I hate OSU. But, I'm watching the game, looking up their recruits on Rivals. Guys, I think we need to really respect how bare we are.

Not to bring up wounds, but Von Bell was a 5* DB not seeing an iota of the field at OSU, just learning and practicing. He made a stupid decision not to come here, cause we have a 3* true Frosh DB as a f'ing starter! There's multiple '11-12 4* recruits I haven't even heard their name yet.

It cannot be understated that despite all the good recruiting classes we've had, we have not had many retained players. So, we really need top flight bodies and experience.

When you take a step back, it's sobering and revealing.
