...to coach successfully in the situation Miles found himself in to begin this season?

Can anyone think of any coaches that have gotten into a "win this game or be fired" situation and won their way out of it? It seems like once you get into that spot, there's no getting out of it.

Kirk Ferentz (sp?) of Iowa. he has had a few "or else" years.

They could have handled this a lot better IMO. Who are they going to go after?

I figure Jimbo Fisher, since he was rumored to be their guy last year if they did it is probably at the top of their list. Tom Herman will probably be gettting a phone call too. Kiffin?

They throw 6 million at Tom Herman.

It was a situation just waiting to happen at LSU. I'd say they go after Herman or FIscher.

Question is where does Miles end up? Rumor in Indiana is Purdue could have interest in Miles.

LOL Purdue

Why is the general belief that Jimbo wants out of FSU/would be eager to jump to another job? I understand the LSU connection but he's been mentioned in connection with other openings in the past.

Only reason I mentioned it was he was supposedly a done deal last year when this all got brought up. I don't think he'd leave FSU unless he had a dump truck load of money thrown at him.

Doubtful.

Maybe somewhere in the PAC-12 or ACC?

I don't see Jimbo leaving FSU. Recruiting hotbed, less threats throughout the season in the ASheShe as well.

Just don't see it. Miles has a big buyout, Hermann just signed a new deal and has a big buyout coupled with the fact that LA as a state is broke. I realize the LSU AD is not broke but I just can't see them breaking the bank for Hermann given that situation. I think they get Briles on the cheap as he is looking for redemption and is a pretty darn good coach.

I wouldn't take a job where averaging 10 wins a year is considered a disappointment. LSU got spoiled... They have a short memory and forget guys like Curley Holman and Gerry D. LSU was irrelevant till Saban got there

Why have they been bad/inconsistent for much of their history? It isn't like Saban showed up and all of a sudden there was talent in Louisiana.

Just incompetent coaching/recruiting?
