Obviously we are set with our starting 3 but after that the preseason depth chart shows Poe, Karl and Brooks as the backups.

ummm, hows about a guy named jerod mayo? marvin mitchell? rico mccoy? andre mathis? the last two will probably be redshitted because of lb depth.

Poe has had a decent amount of playing time, Brooks had a good spring, should be in pretty good shape.

I agree and figured that the last two would redshirt. I thought it was interesting that Mayo and Mitchell were listed third on the depth chart. Threw me off I guess. Do you think those two (Mitchell and Mayo) end up seeing the most PT?

I guess now that I look at it we have plenty of talent. I am just looking to try and find something to complain about.

I don't remember seeing Poe play last year. Is he a legitimate #2 MLB?

Brooks needs to step up, I am just not sure how confident I am that he can stay focuesed and hold it together.

my guess is that ull see the backups as karl, m mitchell, and poe by the end of the year. poe just doesnt impress me and brooks will end up rs'ed or thrown off the team

I agree on Brooks. Maybe the backups end up being Mithcell, Karl and Mayo.

I don't have a problem with Mitchell. I guess it jus concerned me seeing Brooks (who knows), Poe (don't know much about him but he is a senior), and Karl (who is only a soph) as the listed backups.

The incoming class of freshman had some excellent prospects at linebacker. I expected those guys to step up in the back-up role and compete for the starting job next year. :D

Mitchell is pretty good on NCAA. So I think he will be fine.

Same thing for Rico McCoy. :dance2: :birgits_giggle: He wound up being an impact player for me in 2006. I doubt he plays this year though.

I like Poe, Especially in short yard situations. Excellent special teams player and has seen a lot of time on the field.

Mayo, could be the MAN to step up big! ?

From all that i have read, He's busting his tail and made huge stride's in the spring, continues to learn from Gaither. Simon, Mitchell. Easy #4 LB in different looks.

McCoy & Brooks IMO. We'll see McCoy a ton on special teams..He's on his way! Brooks who know's?

If we have a injury to Will and Sam, Id look for Mayo and McCoy.

God know's Simon has much he wants to prove!
But if he goes down :stop: IMO, J.Mitchell fills the middle LB with Poe and maybe McCoy? Over M.mitchell?

Look for the back-ups to be M. Mitchell in the Middle, Mayo Weakside, McCoy Strongside. 3rd String Poe Middle, Brooks Weakside, Karl Strongside. 4th String Mathis Middle, Turner Weakside,

Translation: We're deep enough.

Did you see that hit K.Simon made on the practice highlight video from yesterday?

Marvin Mitchell is very capable of being a starter for us and we can expect big things from Jerod Mayo in the near future. Karl and Poe are solid. Who knows when it comes to Brooks.

We should be more than fine this year. The future looks even brighter, with Mayo, Brooks, McCoy, Andre Mathis, Gerald Williams, Robert Ayers (legal troubles pending), and Todd Cox (if he comes back after Juco)

So was that McCoy in the video? He looks like he could be a monster. GREAT hit on that play.

Ayers has moved to DE. He is still learning the position, but early indications are that we just might have something special there with him. His attitude needs to improve. He is apparently a bit immature both on and off the field. I also think there is strong chance that we could see Gerald Williams at DE as well.

Rico McCoy looks like he could be a superstar in waiting. We need to sign some quality LBs this recruiting class, in my opinion.

By the way, Ayers' legal troubles have been resolved and he is suspended for the first two games. Hopefully, he won't have anymore "legal issues" while at Tennessee.

I read that right after I posted... hoped no one would notice! :D If that was Rico in that video then... no wonder he wound up being such a beast for me in NCAA 06! hehehe

Either way, LB depth should be fine.
