Is our second string as good as our starters?

Seems like the second team is almost as good as the starters. ZZ, JJJ, Aidoo, Awaka, and Mashack.

The second team probably could finish in the top half of the SEC.
I think ZZ, Awaka and JJJ are better then some of our starters. I can't believe that Awaka was only a 3 star prospect.

GG coming in averaging almost 17 per and gets a goose egg on his home court. Nuff said!
Guy taking fade always and doesn’t play within the framework of his offense. Not saying he’s not good, just saying he doesn’t seem to be a “team first” player.

We intentionally are not starting our best players because our depth allows it. It's kind of strange but it's working.
I agree, It seems that Zeigler is more comfortable coming off the bench and Uros seems to produce better starting even if he just plays 5-10 minutes a game. Then of course JJJ is just coming off injury. It’s weird but it works.

Barnes recently explained the Zeigler plan. Bringing him off the bench allows Tennessee to "buy" some minutes early that keep him from picking up an early foul. Barnes said he doesn't trust the officials enough to not call something ticky-tack early that may force him to use ZZ sparingly later in the game. He said he needs ZZ at the end more than he does at the beginning.

It's true, it's smart, and it's hopefully sending a subconscious message to SEC officials when ZZ does come in. Every game, there is a foul (at least one) called on him where I think to myself...and sometimes outloud...where was the contact??? He really seems to get picked on by officials for some reason.

I think at this point we are just not in a first or second team situation. There are to many combinations of these guys to say "this is the first or this is the second team". The opponent can have an effect on who we might start in a game not the hard headed approach of these are the starter. What I am say is. these guys are interchangeable without a falloff. So, at this point I see no 1'st or 2nd need to identify this team of players.

He gets steals on crossovers and reversals where he’s a clean foot off his man and gets called. Against MSU, he stepped into the passing lane, cleanly stole a pass, dribbled two times and then got the whistle. Refs hate little quick guys. “He must’ve fouled him…”

My new favorite, I love how he attacks the rim…

JJJ will be a starter again when he gets back into playing shape. However, it really doesn't matter who starts. Some of the younger Big guy are playin g better and therefor playing more. If some has the hot hand, they may let him play more, but Barns wants to play the guys who practice best as much as he can and still have "fresh" legs in the game. With so many guys getting playing time, we should have fresh legs through the entire season and that will be a plus during tournament time. I really like this team and the way they are playing.

If UT were "forced" hypothetically to go to an 8 man rotation, my guess as to the 2 sit-outs would be Key and Plav.

That's a nice problem to have, your weakest links are a 7 footer and an "instant offense" seasoned sg.

There really are no consistent weak links in the 10 man rotation. I think RB has a dream rotation at his disposal. He just needs to manage it effectively, which he has recently. (just hope he doesn't over manage it come tourney time).

Yep. His hands are quicker than their eyes.

Plav starting and us playing this well really gives credit to Barnes. He obviously knows more about what he's doing than we all do. Some of the personnel decisions seem a little crazy, but it's working!

He played with zero energy / enthusiasm. Didn’t even try to block out for rebounds. Just got the ball and tried to make a one on one type move. Got a lot to learn but he’s clearly talented

In Barnes system the players know who starts isn’t that big of a deal. We have 10 guys that all play together and know their minutes will come in Barnes system. They know what coach expects and they love to play together. GBO!
