I was just watching the replay of the Bama and Penn St. game. Bama was up 24 -3 with less than a minute left and Satan was still running plays. Why not take a knee? It wasn't like Penn St. was calling time outs. All he had to do was run the clock out. There was no reason to continue to pound the ball down their throats. I guess he was hoping to tack on another 7 points to run up the score. Seriously, does this guy not have a conscience?

Unfortunately it pays to run up the score.

I would have done the same.

Milo is right. That extra 7 points could be the difference between #1 and #2. If Bama, OSU and Boise State run the table... points scored and quality wins will be the deciding factor in between being USC/Oklahoma and being Auburn.

Not a chance Bama is left out if they run the table.

I remember last year they had a big play vs Florida at the end of the 4th quarter and Saban called a kneel down at the 10 yard line. The announcers took a passive jab at Urban Meyer, basically saying that Urban wouldn't have shown the same sportsmanship.

Counting on it? How about accounting for what-ifs?

What if Alabama loses a game?

What if Boise gets back into the national championship picture?

What if Oregon and/or Oklahoma go undefeated?

Unlike how most of you guys view things, the pollsters are not overly impressed by the SEC this year, and just because an SEC team goes undefeated in no way automatically punches a ticket to the national title. It might be the most likely, but we still have 90% of the season ahead of us and anything can happen.

If your team is in the BCS title picture, running the score up every chance you get ALWAYS helps, period.

Hard to think a team is trying to add on points when the quarterback didn't throw one single pass during the 4th quarter. Did you happen to notice that when making your observance?

Reigning national champion goes undefeated, they'll play for the championship again regardless of the conference they play in.

Where's that rule written?
It doesn't matter, at least not this year. Not a chance as team like Boise could jump the undefeated, defending SEC and national champion.

The SEC has produced the last 4 national champions, and whether it's fair or not, there's no chance Bama doesn't get in unless they drop at least one game.

why does everyone care so much about supposed "class"?
and where is the requirement that a coach has to have a conscience?

No there isn't, but if 2004 doesn't prove anythng to anybody, I don't know what will. Yes, if Bama runs wire to wire then there is almost no likelihood they get dropped in the polls.

I honestly think they're going to drop one this year. Six of their conference opponnents get a by week going into the Bama game.

What if they lose and Ohio State and Oklahoma are unbeaten? Is that not a possible scenario? Wouldn't an even bigger blowout win have helped Bama in that type of situation?

College football is like soccer tournaments in that bigger wins are even better wins.

For the record, if you're up 6 TD's on Arkansas state, you put in your 4th stringers and take knees as soon as possible.

If you're playing nationally ranked Penn State, you score as many TD's as humanly possible.

I think Bama made a statement without running up the score, if you watched the game score could have been worse, they didn't throw a pass the whole 4th quarter.
