I always feel like Rick Barnes is good at developing/improving players. Now with players jumping in and out, do you think it helps or hurts the program?

I’d say it affects us the same as it does any program. Players that don’t want to be coached hard/ want more playing time/ want to move down(or up) a level will leave, and we’ll either replace that spot with a similar player with a better work ethic, or a much more talented player with a good work ethic.

It helps when you can rid yourself of players that cannot play to pick up very good players at positions of need.

Its a part of recruiting now so every coach needs to use it. You can get instant upgrades to a position. Ark team this season had several portal transfers. Worked for them.

I think that the answer to that question for any team is how well they use the portal. Coaching staffs can embrace the changes in college athletics and dedicate themselves to making the new rules work for them, or they can embrace their inner bitterness about how college sports has been ruined and will never be the same and continue to stubbornly run their program no different than how they did before the rule changes. One of those methods will succeed and the other method will produce diminishing returns.
