I believe that Butch Jones has multiple players set to commit on signing day in hopes of pulling off an Ole Miss-style coup circa 2013. He's got 3 five star players potentially on the hook in Kongbo, Dickerson, and Brown. Warrior is a high four star and they've still got a couple of other 4 star kids who are hinting that Tennessee may lead.
What do you guys think? Is Butch setting up a master plan? Do we pull off the Great Big Orange Signing Day Heist? Will Hollywood make a movie about this? The answer is yes to all counts. Please post congratulating me on figuring out the whole scheme below. Dissenters are all Negavols and gitshirts.
delfonic, after having Butch Jones here for a few years, I have no doubt he has a master plan. We have seen plenty of evidence to that throught the last 2 recruiting cycles. However what it really is will not be what each of us think it is.
He has knowledge of these recruits you and I do not have. He talks to their coaches, family, and if possible and proper, he may even talk to their local trainers, ministers, teachers, local cops, and barbers. He does not just go to 247. ESPN, or other sites to learn about them like we do.
Rightfully, he wants to learn everything about these HS kids. I think in the past he has changed which players he makes a priority with little regard to star ratings. We have seen commits let go. Was he making space for a better recruit, or did he get wind of a problem? (bad grades, bad attitude, getting arrested, and lots of other factors) Probably both, but the reason will never be revealed.
Point is he has a plan, but plenty of secondary options. Some of it we can figure out, and some we can't, because we are not Butch Jones. I believe that plan is tweeked every time the coaches meet. And I do believe the additions of Larry Scott and Bob Shoop will modify the master plan. It will also change by the recruit's choices.
When NSD gets here, we will then know how well the plan worked. The thing I know for sure is he is not half assing it like Dooley did, who seemed lazy on both evaluations and developing relationships. With Jones, I feel in the end most of us will be pleased with the class. But I won't hold my breath for that Hollywood movie.
