Somewhere out there in a small town is a high school senior that is capable of leading the Lady Vols up the ladder to cut down the nets. It only takes one player such as Candice Parker to bring it all home. There are so many Lady Vol fans all over the country surly someone can find that local girl and get the information to the Lady Vol office.

Fans ..... the team needs your help, lets find that golden child.....she exist.

No, we do not need a "golden child recruit". Even Candace Parker, as good as she was, just wasn't so good she could win games single handed. Parker was one of the greatest Women's players of all time, but she wasn't a basketball messiah. And neither is the player you are looking for.

What is needed is not so much different players. They need a different mindset. One that uses each players talents to their best advantage to win games. One that makes sure the players understand what each needs to do to win. One that, when they feel confused or lost, stares them straight in their eyes and scares them into giving their best.

Basically, the Lady Vols need Pat. And if not Pat, someone who embodies her best traits. Holly may know Pat's game philosophy, but she does not have Pat's ability to break the girls down when they need it.

And until Holly figures that out, the Lady Vols are NOT the Lady Vols.

Doesn't matter. She will sign with UConn. Geno usually gets the #1 recruit every year and a couple out of the top 5-10. Machine in recruiting and titles.

Tennessee is not the place the CP3's will choose to come now that this has happened. Nothing against Holly, but, we are not what we once were~

You are dangerously close to poaching on aaronvol's territory. :)

Anyway, just in case you need some "good" football news and haven't heard, Alvin Kamara is returning for another season.

I thought I read somewhere that Candace came here because she wanted to play FOR Pat. I imagine a lot of players felt that way. But we don't have that draw anymore. Even though Holly seems to be trying to do everything just like Pat did/would, she's not Pat. Holly needs to be her own woman and find her own voice and way. If all she can offer is Pat Lite, she will fail. And it's not looking good right now. Myself, I would give her this season and next season (two years with her own players) to see if she can right the ship before I would start calling for a new coach.

While everyone always wants to land the first-team AA every year...as Pat was wont to do...it's been apparent now that talent alone won't win championships. Even GG found that out at Duke.

Bringing in high-school AA has not been the answer for a program who hasn't reached a Final Four in eight years. IMO, the emphasis should be looking for team-oriented, coachable players who are fundamentally sound but open to working hard & improving...and playing within the system.

UCONN may get the top recruits every year, but they still have to play within the system. They go there to win championships...and they know the accolades and future WNBA success will follow.

Let's face it...to go to some schools, you have to be not only talented but mentally tough. And have the mentality that you hate losing and that the team's winning is far more important than your individual stats.

And that you have a coaching staff who will demand that and make you the best you can be.

IMO, that is what it will take to get the top-tier recruits. Meanwhile, we should focus on getting players who will look well-coached on the floor and produce consistently enjoyable bb (for them AND the fans). Success will follow, and recruiting will return.

Hate to be negative, but: Waiting 2 more years accomplishes what? Further proof what we already know now? That is what we don't need. Holly needs to be replaced after this year.

I say two years because I believe it's way too unrealistic to expect Holly to be fired after only one mediocre season with the record she has already produced, even with the expectations and the lack of recruits so far this year. And considering that record, it would only be fair to see if she can make changes and reverse the trend to improve the team's performance. Am I optimistic she can? No, but I hope she does.

Well let us be honest, Holly versus Genno who would choose Holly? It is not just needing top players it is about doing the best with what you have. Holly has top three talent and may lose 10 games. How much talent do we have coming in next year? At this point, for us to get top talent it must be a player that has their heart set on playing for the Lady Vols. Personally, unless proven otherwise, I doubt if Holly could sell a live preserver to a drowning billionaire.

Man I remember her getting hurt before she started her freshman year. I was so looking forward to seeing her play. She was a game changer!

We've got two absolutely top prospects on THIS YEAR's team in Russell and Deshields, not to mention three or four other blue chips. We don't need another great player. We need a staff that can teach the good players that we have to play a lot better--that has been our problem.

i agree armchair..... the problem is not getting another parker..... even she will not help without a competent coach..... DeShields was the second coming, Mercedes was #1 overall in country, and we have 6 losses midseason
