Is this staff too cocky?

I follow the majority of recruiting either on this site, VQ, or IT. I have complete faith in this staff but am beginning to wonder about there recruiting practices.

We lose B. Willis, who said he hadn't talk to Kiffin in almost a month. I mean WTF? I'm sure CLK and CEO had an idea this guy was looking elsewhere, why would you not call this guy to reaffirm his committment?

Now I read an article on ESPN about Taylor and how he is now expressing interest in Notre Dame and one of his best friends is going there.

Also we were at the top of Dixon's list when he left here, now it seems we're 3rd behind Bama and Baylor.

As someone who travels quite a bit for work, I understand that not many people look at Tennessee football anymore as a national program and I don't expect to get every blue chip kid in America but I do expect some. It just seems to me that CLK is a little over confident when he tells these kids to "look around." CUM and St Nick have told some of there most prized recruits not to take visits but CLK seems to do the opposite.

I really hope CLK understand this isn't USC. He can't just drive down the street and find 5* athletes at Farragut, Bearden, Alcoa or Maryville like he could in LA.

I hope I'm wrong but I'm just a concerened Vol fan, and my gut says Volnation may be disappointed come NSD.

I think he does know that, thats why he said the reason he says the stuff he does is to get UT's name and power T out there for all recruits to see. If you'll look, we have alot more recruits from the states of Ga and Fl than we do Tn. I think CLK and staff are doing an amazing job considering they have been on the job for just 13 months

Volmaster, I think they are doing a great job as well. It just seems here lately we're losing more committments than getting them. Like I said I have complete faith, but there hasn't been alot of committs than many people were calling "LOCKS" or "Silent"

True but most of the decommitts were not surprises other than Willis. But I think as Vol fans, we will all be happy, satisfied maybe even stoked when NSD gets here!!

I do wish he wouldn't tell them to look around, but i think what he's tryin to show em is that he's got respect for them and their choice's!IMO

When you are "in the game" with so many top recruits, you will lose more than you get. Relax and enjoy the ride.

Well, seeing that exactly 1 out of 20 commits in this class is from TN, I would say he understands that.

Dude, some advice. You should stop following the whims of 18-year-olds like an episode of As The World Turns. If you tie into the daily ups and downs of recruiting you are going to be a perpetual basket case. Let's see how it all shakes out at the end, and then we can make an accurate analysis.

No, but there are some who would call it too cocky. But, that's just jealousy rearing its ugly head.

Kiffin knows recruiting...he really does.

He knows this is not USC, as a matter of fact he states this very sentiment every other sentence he speaks.

The fact he did not talk to Willis maybe because he's coaching the team, there was a dead period, or there's other talent we want.

Trust our staff. They've hauled in top talent in many different places...
1. Miami
2. Alabama
3. USC
4. Purdue
5. Tennessee
6. And many others

We will be alright.

We might as well turn everything off and wait and see what they come up with on NSD. The way that they recruit is very fluid. I am concerned about having kids to commit early and then start looking elsewhere. And I do not think that has anything to do with NCAA snooping around. Look at FSU. They just got nailed and are having a fantastic class. And Alabama should be next to hear the outcome of their appeal, which will go the same way as FSU.

I think that most of it is negative recruiting from rival coaches and the two coaches that just left the program. I think that there is a concerted effort by several schools to make Lane out to be some kind of idiot. It is one thing when you hear one coach say this, but when 2 or 3 of them repeat the same message the kids start to believe it.

And Kiffin has sort of made some of this himself by the comments that he has made. He needs to understand that the culture in the south is much more serious when it comes to sports and everything is not for show.

Also, I personally do not care for the recruiting rankings as I have followed them for about 25 years and am tired of getting classes of 5 star head cases that do not think that they have to prove anything. Eric Berry was an exception. I would rather have 2 or 3 stars that want to prove something as a person on the field, in the classroom, and in life.

But then again, we have a new coach that shows he knows how to develop and use talent. Maybe he can handle the primadonas.

Do you not understand that the quality of recruits we are going after is much higher and much more sought after by other schools. We will lose some but we will take some away - yin and yang at the highest level. You did not have this very much with Uncle Phil - the last years.

This iwll become more common in years coming.

We will finish in the TOP FIVE.

Reality is... anyone who even finishes in the top fifteen could have gotten the numero uno class. But we won't know until they actually make it through college courses, develop in the weight room, get coached by the staff, and win (or lose) some games. There are 5-stars that fizzle and 3-stars that sizzle. Time will tell...

GO VOLS!!

Top Five is reachable.

Top Three would be outstanding.

After finishing 7-6 and getting a top 5 class = beautiful

We could all sit back and eat hamburgers with CPF.......the kids he is going after must like something.......you would not be motivated by these guys to play football at UT.If not get a vest and play at OSU............

If you are shopping for a new car, who are you most likely to trust, the salesman who tells you to look at the competition and then come back and talk, or the one who doesn't want to let you off the lot?

CLK knows that he has a staff that no one else can rival. These guys know what the pros are looking for and every one of these high school recruits dream of playing on Sunday.

Encouraging comparison shopping may be gutsy, but it has got to be impressive compared to the alternative.
