I think Tennessee showed yesterday that they can compete in the SEC. I believe we can qualify for the tournament if we play as well and as hard as we did yesterday versus Duke. If we make the tournament, people will be satisfied with Cuonzo. I'm not sure what the expectations are for Tiger High. I do know that their coach has been in place for a few years, and he needs to start winning some big games.

This will be another statement game for TN. Pastner will get out coached and we'll pull out a close one.
The 3 will fall today. GBO

Memphis has much more to lose if they lose to us today

i live in Memphis and have a few friends and co-workers who are die hard fans, plus the company I work for is a licensed merchandiser for UofM... they are devastated with the lose yesterday. They are expecting big..BIG things out of their team. So I say a lose to us today would send alot of their fans over the edge way to early in the season. Its gonna go from who's gonna stop us from getting to the final four to....can we compete in the CUSA real quick in these parts.

Memphis needs this more:

Would fall to 1-2 if they lose.

They don't play a strong conference lineup and need each and every big name non-conference victory to help with tournament seeding.

They are already talking junk about being disrespected as the most overrated preseason Top 10 team. To go out and lose 2 games to quality opponents would only solidify that view.

Pastner needs to show he can win quality games. He's landed excellent recruits but hasn't demonstrated excellent coaching yet.

Having said that, a victory for the Vols this early is still a big deal! Go Big Vols!

No question bigger for Memphis. If they lose a lot more of their own will start to see what most of us outside of Memphis have seen for a long time. Pasner can't get it done. Memphis winning today won't prove that wrong so its a no win today for him!

Way bigger for Memphis. These fans in the area are freaking out. They are calling it a "must win" game. Rightfully so, I suppose. They were not expecting to be in this position with a loss to Michigan.

I also believe we pull it out today. Cuonzo begins his tenure with a bang.

Honestly though it would not hurt us as much as wining against Duke would have winning big against Memphis could end up getting expectations a bit too high. Just like when we whipped up on Cincinnati everyone started reserving rooms for the SECCG and then went apecrap wild when reality sank in.

This is a dangerous team and they have a better chance of over performing than the football team but any type of postseason play would be more than should be expected. Just looking at situation and roster before we tipped a ball NIT was where I saw us. Anything beyond that is a testament to the staff and the young players they brought in. Golden is the real deal but honestly after that we have a lot of question marks.

Don't expect the vols to win this one. Memphis is going to come out with something to prove. I honestly believe we are a much better coached team, but i noticed yesterday that we like to try and run if we can because we don't have a ton of half court options on offense. I'm afraid we may get into a track meet with the tigers and if that happens... they may run us out of Maui.

That being said this is a game we CAN win and obviously ill be hoping that is the case. Just trying to warn people that may be expecting us to win. Don't over react if it doesn't happen.

It's a much bigger game for Memphis. We didn't come into the tournament ranked #8 in the country. We aren't really expected to win these games, especially at this point in the season. It is a big game for Martin, but bigger for Memphis who is expected to be much better than we are this year.

Main question I have is can we keep up with their athleticism and will our legs be there. We blew by Duke at times. I don't know if we'll be able to against Memphis. Memphis won't be nearly as well coached or disciplined though.

We played 11 players last night, so we should be ok. Memphis has better overall talent, without question. However, we have better coaching. Should be an interesting game.

Barton and Thomas, 2 five star recruits are the difference in the game. Golden, McRae and Maymon are trying to keep up but can't.

We need to slow down and play physical. Memphis can't play D, and likes to run and gun. They don't like having to play half court offense.
