I just saw where the ACC might postpone rest of season or is it just next week? Will update more as soon as I find out. How will the rest of the season go?

They have a set of contingencies in place based on school participation. If fewer than 8 teams would be available to participate they would postpone

For sake of argument, this is the reason for the conference only schedule.

In case stuff like this happens, the SEC will still play

Yeah, the way that the SEC handled scheduling was actually pretty brilliant given the circumstances. Every team has two byes (one near the middle and December 12th) to accommodate makeups and it's not as if the opponents are truly set in stone; if Vanderbilt and Arkansas have COVID-19 issues in week seven, what's to say that Tennessee doesn't play on the road in Starkville instead?

I'd be floored if there aren't at least a handful of postponements/adjustments, but everyone seems pretty damn committed to making this season work to the fullest possible extent.

There so many not just within VN but it seems but in all the fan bases that are praying over beads, rubbing heads of their favorite dollies, wishing over decoder rings hoping beyond hope this season gets canceled. It ain't happening snowflakes, buckle up, it might get bumpy but this season takes off and lands successfully.

They realize they screwed up cancelling so early.

They had this elitist opinion it seems college football would sure follow suit with whatever the BIG10 decided to do. I mean college football could not go on without the BIG10, right? And Trump could never win the Republican nomination because he had no path to 270.

I don't think the Big Ten's analysis was "We're so important that CFB can't/won't go on without us." I think it was more like "If we cancel due to COVID safety issues, it'll look bad if the other conferences tried to continue, so they'll probably cancel too."

Institutions, especially larger, publicly visible ones like corporations or (in this case) athletic conferences, frequently make decisions based on how things look to their target audience(s) ("optics") rather than reality.

What's the real difference in those two?

What's the real difference in those two?
#1 is "We're so important to the sport from a financial/money perspective, the sport can't make it without us." (financial reasons)

#2 is "Maybe we can shame the other conferences into cancelling, because it'll look bad if we say we're not playing for safety reasons and the other conferences continued." (PR reasons)
