Tennessee
Starter: Justin Worley
Backup: Joshua Dobbs and Nathan Peterman

How Worley performed: It was another impressive performance from Worley. He completed nine straight passes to start the game and finished 22 of 38 for 247 yards and two touchdowns. He even rushed for a third score. The only negative came in the third quarter when Arkansas State defensive back Money Hunter, son of Detroit Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter, dove in front of one of Worley’s passes and intercepted it.

What it means: Through the first two games, Worley is looking like the most improved player in the SEC. The two touchdown throws to Marquez North on Saturday were not easy throws, and he put them on the money. The senior quarterback will have to play a nearly flawless game this weekend if the Volunteers hope to upset Oklahoma on the road, but win or lose, Worley is still the guy for Tennessee. – Greg Ostendorf

I have been pleasantly surprised by his improvement.

If not the one, certainly close. He is this years Palardy. Came in heralded, struggled early, and hopefully has a great senior season leading a young team.

we will see. He will probably have a bad game at #4 OK, behind a new line, no running game, and losing his main target at TE and his main quick hitch wr in Pearson, but will get verbally abused anyway.

He's been stepping into more throws and looks like he's getting the ball out quicker as well. His deep balls have not been terribly underthrown since last year and haven't been on target, but there hasn't been a guy running wide open yet either. As a matter of fact, I don't recall him making a bad pass yet with a receiver wide open. If he has, it's only been a couple.
This week will be different though. I hate he lost his best two options for quick passes with Wolf and Pearson.

Idaho State is one of the worst teams in college football however there QB threw for over 300 yards on Utah State last week. I'm skeptical until Worley has a good game against better competition.

wouldn't it be great if young Mr Worley did improve that much ? to me he is night and day from last year and you would have to bring up the Special Team play

It clearly qualifies the statement as "through the first two games." It's not saying he'll definitely end up as such. No need for "wait and see" comments.

As a writer you should know many don't get past the headline of a story and the headline doesn't clearly communicate that at all.

One could argue that he is better because the receivers are actually going where they are supposed to and are actually catching the ball.

Or it could be he is putting it where only they can catch it and has developed enough touch that he is making it easier for them to catch.

Fair point. Without question, he has much a much more talented and experienced group of targets this year.

I'd put money on him doing better than most are expecting this Saturday.

If you look at Worley's numbers only, yes possibly, over the last two weeks of play, that might could be said. More probably if only looking at QBs. But, as has been pointed out, USU's Aggie defense, which lost a lot of important players, is starting to look as if oppo ents can flow through them like water.

It's really too early to tell how much he's improved, regardless of some sort of a literary major (English, Journalism, Communications, ... or whatever, if you're not) trying to pin us to the "two week" criteria.

But I will say right now; Worley is the one on the team I most fear going down with an injury.

Methinks it be both.

Those North TDs were great placement by the QB and great body control by the WR.

I'm just trying to keep everything on the up-and-up. It's clear the competition is going to get tougher for Worley, but the writer did qualify his own statement. Doing it for him was redundant. :)
