It’s better that we not get a Top 4 SECT seed and play Thursday. This team needs to figure some things out with ZZ out now. Also need to just get a win or two to get some confidence. The draw for the 5 seed is favorable for us and if we play well we could get to Saturday.

I dont see this team making it to the sweet 16.

Unfortunately I agree. Not sure where this self doubt/ Jekyll & Hyde attitude came from but it's not going to play well next week or in March Madness........Im sure someone will know of one, but I don't remember any team that's fallen off a cliff so bad before, especially after starting so promising. (And i mean pre-ZZ injury)

No, we do not benefit from missing the double bye. Who cares if we beat USCjr by 50 points this time, it should literally do nothing for our confidence or resume. Just hope there are no injuries I guess. It might help in first 5 minutes vs Mizzou, then won’t matter

If we were asked if 20+ wins per year + NCAA tournament appearance, but UT will never get past 32...would everyone be ok with that?

Yeah before ZZ was hurt, we had 2 other starters out for 2 weeks which is where the “slide” began

After Tennessee lost the Colorado game I adjusted my expectations, which is to say, I have no expectations for this team.

A bunch of grim reapers in this thread. This team is so Jekyll & Hyde who knows?
No need to get hopes up but no need to to write them off. I agree with OP we need to get some game practice and prepare. This will be on Coaching because the talent is there to make a run it is just a matter of if Barnes can put it together for them.

This team will get revenge on mizzou but lose in the semis on Saturday. That’s fine with me. I’d rather make the sweet 16 or better than win the sec tourney like last year anyways.

I went thru the Wade Houston years as a kid and was in school for buzz ball. Anyone who expects more than to make the tournament needs to look in the mirror. Most of my life we haven't even had that chance. Yeah I take 20 wins and a bid, and it's not even close

After sleeping on it after post loss frustration, here’s what I think will happen. Vols win Thursday then lose Friday. Vols win game 1 of the NCAA then lose game 2.

Exactly my prediction. Gonna be a long off season. At least we’ll be lowering expectations heading into next season. I hope.

I expect to have the chance for more than to simply strike a deal to never get past round two of the tournament. We've been successful enough to have the optimism for a second weekend showing. The Wade and Buzz years aren't necessarily the norm for this program, especially the Houston years. Winning 20 every year and never going past the round of 32 would really, really, really get old and suck.

Sometimes Volnation can be soooo melodramatic! 😂

Pretty sure you will find that the less emotionally stable provide more declarative statements and ask less questions or explore less potential outcomes. Not a clue what their motivations are. Many want to hedge their bets with the I HOPE I AM WRONG disclaimer.... really love those guys. Tricky, tricky.

It all depends on how we adjust in the tournament to playing without Zakai. I think the biggest adjustment is on defense after watching that last game. Offensively we shot near 50% and shot 45% from 3 and all year if we put up those numbers we would win easily. I thought, initially, that offensively we would be hurting more than defensively, but Auburn drove the lane way to easy with Zakai out and JJJ and Mashack in foul trouble. I agree with the poster about the extra game being somewhat beneficial. For the NCAA tournament more than the SEC tournament. We get to play a lesser team in the first round, and it will let us work on playing defensively without Zakai. Also, it will let us focus on our offense without him too. Not saying any game is a gimme, but it’s one more win to the final tally. Then I’ve always been of the thought that the team in the quarterfinal that played the day before comes out faster and stronger normally. It may not hold out the entire game, but I think it will help us against Mizzou. I think we beat ole miss, beat Mizzou, and lose to Alabama in the semi finals. I would love to have a rematch against Kentucky, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. So 2-1 in the SEC tourney gets us to 24-10. I think we end up a 3-4 seed, and making it to the sweet 16 depends on the luck of the draw. That second round matchup could be a number of teams, so it’s just a guessing game at this point on if we will make the sweet 16 or not. If we do though I think this team will have done a great job this season. Personally I’d be happy making it just to the sweet 16. Any further would just be cake. I still believe in this team. We still have so many good players. Vescovi, JJJ, and Phillips need to step up and our secondary players like Olivier, Mashack, Aidoo, Plavsic, Key, etc. all need to play a role. I think Barnes will get it figured out, or at least I hope he does. I’m an optimistic person so I’m trying to remain optimistic about our sweet 16 chances.

This is the most likely outcome. We could get a favorable matchup and pull off a second round win in the NCAA but the odds of us getting upset in Round 1 are not that low either.
