It all depends on how we adjust in the tournament to playing without Zakai. I think the biggest adjustment is on defense after watching that last game. Offensively we shot near 50% and shot 45% from 3 and all year if we put up those numbers we would win easily. I thought, initially, that offensively we would be hurting more than defensively, but Auburn drove the lane way to easy with Zakai out and JJJ and Mashack in foul trouble. I agree with the poster about the extra game being somewhat beneficial. For the NCAA tournament more than the SEC tournament. We get to play a lesser team in the first round, and it will let us work on playing defensively without Zakai. Also, it will let us focus on our offense without him too. Not saying any game is a gimme, but it’s one more win to the final tally. Then I’ve always been of the thought that the team in the quarterfinal that played the day before comes out faster and stronger normally. It may not hold out the entire game, but I think it will help us against Mizzou. I think we beat ole miss, beat Mizzou, and lose to Alabama in the semi finals. I would love to have a rematch against Kentucky, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. So 2-1 in the SEC tourney gets us to 24-10. I think we end up a 3-4 seed, and making it to the sweet 16 depends on the luck of the draw. That second round matchup could be a number of teams, so it’s just a guessing game at this point on if we will make the sweet 16 or not. If we do though I think this team will have done a great job this season. Personally I’d be happy making it just to the sweet 16. Any further would just be cake. I still believe in this team. We still have so many good players. Vescovi, JJJ, and Phillips need to step up and our secondary players like Olivier, Mashack, Aidoo, Plavsic, Key, etc. all need to play a role. I think Barnes will get it figured out, or at least I hope he does. I’m an optimistic person so I’m trying to remain optimistic about our sweet 16 chances.
