It’s happening…

I don’t know if I’d equate the two, one is the star QB that cut and ran over money issues.

The other is a DL that hasn’t started in any of the games and probably is looking to go somewhere that he’ll be playing as a starter

Not saying either is a good reason
The RB at UNLV also "cut and ran"

First UNLV

Now USC

NC state had one also

But the UNLV one is crazy....surely some donor could have found 100k in his seat cushions..for the first time in HISTORY UNLV football is not only ranked but projected to make the playoffs. Now they are not dude was 80% of their total offense. He was their leading rusher by a large amount and outside of one garbage snap and a trick play from a WR he has attempted every pass they have had. He is was their offense. The other QB's are their roster looks like a rogues gallery of walkons. Did you know there is a school with the mascot of the fighting camels? I do now because of this crap and I cant unknow it.

If a kid makes a decision based on a promise of NIL money, it's up to the institution to deliver on the promise to keep him. This is 100% on UNLV.

The only think Sluka did wrong was not getting said offer in writing, but the kid transferred from Holy Cross. He did what he had to do in order to put himself on a national stage and UNLV tried to take advantage of him. Shame on them. And all of this is over $100k. Why not just give them man his money?

This is how teams are going to start "releasing" a player who doesn't perform well enough. All the pro teams do it: fail to perform or get on the bad side of the organization, they "release" you from your contract, basically cut you and stop paying you.

With no "salary cap hit" for doing so, the colleges have an easier time doing this than the pros. Whether this hurts recruiting or not, and I think it should, remains to be seen.

This is just part of the transition to a pro model.

A certified nomad. Think Darrell Middleton with the portal…or JT Daniels with the portal from the beginning of his career.

What makes things even crazier is that UNLV just got $25 million signing bonus from their conference. Total incompetence. You would think Pruitt, Jones or Dooley was in charge over there.

and one of their RB's also just announced he was out lol UNLV RB Michael Allen, an NC State transfer, joins Matthew Sluka in redshirting and entering transfer portal
cant make this crap up

as far as the AD getting 25 mil I think its deeper than that.. it was not the school he had the 'deal' with it was a collective. The issue is why didn't this dude have a contract? if its for more than few hundred bucks I want it on paper. Also the RB said his isn't about NIL but playing time which makes this even wilder. Some serious problems at UNLV but this is bad precedent also a DT at USC just did the same and plans to just redshirt and STAY lol hows that gonna work. So with the DE from NC State that makes 4 so far this week.

Yeah why didn't he have a contract... He got taken advantage of plain and simple but it's a really bad look for UNLV. Bad business. Bad publicity. The guy did the right thing walking away. People should honor what they say.

I mean this guy is a graduate student from Holy Cross. This is like somewhere in between Vandy/Harvard as far as prestige. He was able to figure out the redshirting rules. He had representation (agents) and an involved father. At this point people have to stop blaming the system and blaming the morons that don't use their brains. Its not like this is some poor kid from a broken home with no guidance or education. He went to a high end private schools in NYC New Jersey. His first high school was more expensive for 1 year (63k for off-campus and 73k for on campus) than a full year ride to UNLV. So there is no reason on the planet this kid and his parents don't know how contracts work and/or their importance..

We are at a point in NIL where all the tomdiggery is about to hit the fan. With the laws going into place where schools can finally directly pay kids. Changes in scholarship limits etc.. this is the part where people are gonna test the system. It happens anytime new stuff is put in folks look for the loopholes and limits. They are also using the 24hour/now news cycle to their advantage. they can control the narrative because by the time the real story comes out they have already went viral. Has anyone questioned why all these recent ones are bouncing at 3 games and not 4? Leverage. Slukas bluff got called. Someone did step up and offer to pay (a casino) but by then UNLV was like nah we want nothing to do with these folks (Slukas). Trust me this could have been handled was smoother and out of the limelight.

People forget what the LV in UNLV stands for. This is the first time UNLV's football program has ever been ranked. EVER. There is so much money laying between couch cushions in that city its not funny. A random gas station slot machine could have been set up to sort this whole thing with one jackpot pull for a random family member.
