Hey gang, don't be too anxious to mark this year off this early. Lots of exciting things could yet happen. I am definitely hacked about the results so far, but you can't tell me you wouldn't be swelling up again if we ran the table.

That, of course, would include wins against Bammy and Notredamus. Give these guys a chance for a bit longer because I believe that we have the talent to get it done. If the right combinations are found, we could still do some very major and worthy damage the remainder of the year.

I just happen to think that it would take more than two losses (Although they were heartbreaking to me) this year for us to have had a BAD year.

I am hoping that these two weeks to prepare for Bama will allow our guys to get some much-needed rest, focus a bit on their classes and their sweeties, and get retuned to deliver the effort Tennessee football is known for.

You have to remember that while some teams around the country have been playing the equivalent of a Junior High schedule, we have played a killer schedule thus far. So I just have a feeling that our guys have had enough, and that they are going to take that out on Bama Saturday week.

So rest up and get ready to support them on the 22nd. If Phil (Kool) and the Gang will do their part, and if we will do our part, I just happen to think that our guys will do their part in Tuscaloosa.

Good grief, just think what a death nell it would be to the overexpectants in Tuscaloosa if we went down there and put it to them. We definitely could AND I THINK WE WILL!

GO VOLS!!!!!!!

All it would take Surreal is for ND to beat the almighty Trojans and for us to beat Bama and ND.

Is it possible?

Absolutely.

Let the chips fall where they may and win out. I'm no longer expecting a division title. Does this year already qualify as a dissapointment in my book? Absolutely. But we can still make a 10-win season with lots of hard work and a little luck.

In the SEC, Your the team, or the Dream the Team didnt have until after gameday!
Not a quote, But Kevin Burnett said it best! When your season has been spoiled, Its pleasure to make those still undefeated sip sour milk. Whats the only good thing next to winning out? Ruining someone elses chance. :dance2:

Before everybody writes off the Vols as having no chance at winning the East Division, let me list the teams that have played in the SEC Championship game with 2 or more losses....

1992 Florida 6-2
1995 Arkansas 6-2
1996 Alabama 6-2
1997Auburn 6-2
1998 Mississippi St. 6-2
2000 Auburn 6-2
2001 Louisiana St. 5-3
2002 Arkansas 5-3
2003 Georgia 6-2

That's a pretty surprising list. Don't think it will happen for us this year though since we lose the tiebreakers to both UGA and Florida, but still goes to show that anything can and does happen.

Anything can happen and usually does as far as Fulmer is concerned! He finds a way to pull himself from the flames and satsify those who are content with a cotton bowl win!

WOOHOO! :yahoo:

Nothing would be finer at this point than to put the stunner on the Tide faithful. All the Bama fans are already talking about how Bama should jump Texas in the polls and get a crack at USC in the Rose Bowl. HAR! I hope we put it to them. :cross:

I believe this team has a chance to win out if the offense will play up to their potential. I hope that the QB's have found some needed motivation. It seems that they perform well when each is the underdog or has emotional motivation. Take Clausen for example, He played his best game against LSU, but only after being embarassed by being demoted to backup and asked to come in and save the day. He had to prove it to UT and LSU. Afterward, he was cemented as the starter and ran his mouth in confident defiance. What Happend? He came out flat with ol Miss and could not lead us to a win against UGA. Now he is back where he was prior to the LSU game. The fans are not convinced and despite the words coming out of his mouth, he has to prove himself again. How does this affect Ainge. Well if you want to make a competitor hungry don't let him sit at the table. EA has been on the outside looking in and hopefully this has stoked a fire in him and he will come out blazing. He seemed to perform best when he had to come in and clean up Brent's starts, well he has been sitting on the sideline a long time and maybe Phil's plan is too make him want it so bad that he will finally be the man and take it. Bottom line, both QB's have something to prove and they know it. I hope they can prove it.

The odds are certainly against it, but crazier things have happened... especially over on the West Division side.

Florida has remaining conference games against:
@LSU
vs Georgia
vs Vandy
@ South Carolina

Georgia has remaining conference games against:
@Vandy
vs Arkansas
vs Florida
vs Auburn
vs Kentucky

Of course the Vols would need to get their heads on straight and win out. Florida would need to lose to LSU and then either Vandy or SCarolina. Florida would also have to beat Georgia. Georgia would also need to lose to Auburn and either Vandy or Arkansas.

I've got no problem seeing the Florida scenario playing out. Florida has finished with 5 losses each of the past several seasons... but still has some success against Georgia. Georgia has a history of mid to late season collapses... but they usually started with a loss to Tennessee. Georgia losing to Florida and Auburn is not a big stretch... but Vandy would probably have to be the team to turn the big upset trick. Vandy usually plays Georgia close, and they are more talented this season. So who knows???

Wouldn't you love it if Vanderbilt was 8-2 and playing Tennessee for a shot as the East Representative in the SECCG!

The way i look at it, we got 2 bowl games coming up, one against Bama and the other Against ND. We need to look at it like that, cause basically the rest of the season is just a prep for next year. you cant get much out of this season finish 3rd or lower in the SEC east.

Yes. The Bama game will be bigger than any bowl matchup we are likely to get. IF we can beat Bama and ND beats USC the game at South Bend will be huge. I might even travel to Yankeeland for that.
