I've never felt so genuinely happy for a team I had no rooting interest in. Nobody gave these Giants a chance. They fought their hearts out, and I found myself grinning ear to ear watching them celebrate. And I don't give a rat's crap about the New York Giants.

Maybe it's just how much I hate the Patriots. I began wondering why that is.

Tom Brady is the golden boy. The high school QB, captain of the team, student council president. The guy with the cool car and always gets the girl. Everybody who wasn't him hated him just a little.

Belichick is the cranky old bastard down the street who kept your football if it landed inside his fence. Never had a kind word to say, and if he did, it sounded like a load of crap. He didn't like anyone, and nobody liked him, and that suited him just fine.

I realize that those are just their public images. Partly created by the media, but they are not blameless either. I think that's why most people hate them, and giggled when they lost.

Well said.

I was in a room with about 40 people watching the big game. No one had any ties to the Giants or the Pats - although you would have thought it was a bunch of New Yorkers watching the game together. I've never seen so many people cheer against one team like that when they don't have dog in the hunt.

On the Giants game winning TD it almost felt like at UT game or something - everyone was pretty crazy.

Nice post. I have a casual interest in the Giants, only because they are on TV here often, whereas the Packers are not.

I wonder what the nationwide % of people rooting Against New England, and therefore for the Giants, was? I'd say high 70's

They had a poll on ESPN and over 70% did say they weren't pulling for the Patriots. I think it was around 73% and only 4 NE states had the majority.
