Legacies. The most frustrating part of the last two years was watching kids commit to other places and wondering if UT had ever even called them.

*cough cough* Vonn Bell, Jalen Ramsey....Watching Butch makes me think that Dooley either didnt care at all or is just mentally handicapped, because how could he seriously ignore all these players and local high schools

I think TN should use a "show cause" clause in the contract. It's obvious that CDD and staff didn't do squat for the last few months recruiting.

i never said they were. Jalen Ramsey was the #1 player in Tennessee and Vonn Bell was a vol fan his whole life, and Dooley just didnt recruit them. He may have offered VB, but he made no effort to actually recruit the kid.

Maybe not but if Butch Jones was here longer than a month before NSD we would of signed both. He almost pulled it off anyways. Just do not see why Dooley was not after these guys from the start. I guess Saban scared Dooley off of these two players.

I honestly think Dooley was a "silver-spoon" kid. His dad was a college football legend - especially in GA. He probably never paid for his dinner. Dools grew up watching all of this and began to expect it - hence his aloofness (some call it arrogance). So it doesn't surprise me that he didn't work as hard as he could have. I believe his true calling is in athletics administration - not coaching. But b/c of his father and hero (Saban) he is reluctant to admit this simple fact to himself ("I'm not a coach"). Psychoanalysis I know, but a theory nonetheless.

With all of his faults, he did "right UT's ship" from a NCAA perspective and cleaned up UT's image. For these reasons, I believe he belongs in an admin. position.

I don't understand why some think he belongs in Admin when he's proven time and again his decision making skills are terrible.

Don't get me wrong, I think DD had to go, and Butch has all the markings of a great hire, but lets don't equate the landing of legacies to the landing of unattached recruits. I'm sure some will blast me but I am NOT saying Butch isn't doing a great job, and I m NOT saying DD should still be here, but it sure helps having these legacies. You still have to convince them to come and by all accounts Butch is doing a fabulous job, but to some extent comparing the recruitment of TJ jr to the recruitment of Ramsey is not a good comparison.

That's wild speculation. Ramsey was never interested and Bells daddy can spin it any way he wants to, but Bell chose Urbie over Butch.

I agree with the Dooley/Silver Spoon thing. I think he watched his dad recruit & thought that was the way it was still done... Just kind of stand around & wait for them to come to you. It's unreal the lack of recruiting that staff apparently did...

Dooley could not carry Lane's jockstrap.

Did you watch Lames preseason #1 team play last season? 7-6 after getting punked in their bowl game? By Ga Tech? Understand the spirit of your post cause Dooley was an unmitigated disaster. Thinking they should just swap jocks and call it even.
