At least we didn't lose to a slouch. BCC is pretty good, regardless of what their affiliation is. Considering what I knew about them prior to the series, I was hoping for a series win; being short a game due to the weather, I'm not too unhappy with a split.
James Adkins pitched extremely well today, but the pen couldn't hold it - considering that Lance McClain was used in the relief role. It's easy to second guess after the fact, but I'm sure the reasoning in making that change was to get Lance the work that he needs to get ready for the SEC. By not pitching this weekend, Lance would have had 2 weeks between outings - obviously less than ideal. Sometimes those decisions/situations backfire, but I believe I understand the philosophy behind doing so.
3 more errors...uuggghh. Our Fielding % so far this year = .949. Got to get better.
Offensively we just cannot seem to break out of it at all.
Today's game - we had 6 hits - 2 by Lima, 2 by Frazier (the hitting star today w/2RBI), and 2 by Lockwood. No balance. Lock and Fraz had back to back hits in separate innings (the 2nd and 4th) to plate 2 runs. They were our entire offense, essentially, as the other 2 runs scored on an error and a BB. We LOB 9 guys and squandered 5 errors and a bases loaded nobody out (after a BB forced in a run) situation in the 9th by striking out and then hitting into a game ending DP. The 2 worst things that could've happened, did.
JP Arencibia leaving the game in the first put Andy Simunic into the game in RF, moving Ryan Jones to 1B. Simunic going into JP's clean up spot had a rough day, going 0-4, leaving 4 runners on. Tough luck.
Here are some pretty telling offensive numbers (up to date):
UT - 14 extra base hits, the opponents 28.
Of those extra base hits, UT has 2 HR, the opposition 9.
Slugging percentage - UT .296 --- Opponents .488
Batting averages:
Danny Lima .333
Shawn Griffin .296
Cody Brown .276 (HR, 5 RBI)
Jeff Lockwood .263
Ryan Jones .207
Andy Simunic .200
JP Arencibia .174 (HR, 3 RBI)
Tony Delmonico .172
Jarred Frazier .167
Yan Gomes .154
Daniel Beasley .000
Alan Wright .000
These numbers will not stay like this; these guys are too good to stay down much longer.
Just hold on, we'll heat up and get going sooner or later...
