It's gonna take awhile to rebuild this program. Let's not kid ourselves. The cumulative effect of 2 terrible coaching hires on top of attrition of players, ascension of other SEC programs, and the turnover of almost the entire assistant coaching staff in Dooley's 3rd year, has created layers and layers of instability.

One crucial ingredient to success is continuity.
See Oregon.

Brick-by-brick, if you will.

We can bemoan our current state of talent and depth.
But it's important we remember that things are not going to be easier next year.

Yes, we have a great class (so far) for 2014.
But counting on more than just a few freshmen to make a considerable impact is a pipe dream.

Consider...
1. We will likely lose our ENTIRE starting O-line at the end of this season.

2. Our D-line loses Smith, Hood, McCullers, Walls, Miller, Clark, and Couch.

Losing your entire group of starters in the trenches is absolutely devastating. But don't forget this good news...

3. We signed NO - ZERO - NADA - ZILCH RBs in our 2013 recruiting class. And 2 of the 3 we signed in 2012 have quit (Bourque and Watson).

We got a LOT of work to do.

Let's get behind our team 100%, pray the young pups grow up fast this season, and cheer for at least one or two BIG wins over an SEC team that has had continuity (Georgia, Florida, SC, or Alabama) to keep hope alive and recruits committing to re-establish Tennessee's rightful place at the top of the SEC.

Go Vols!

As fans, we should always believe in our team but reality says that we will not be a great team until 2015.

2013 (1) It is obvious that our quarterback play and receiver play is still developing (2) All the players have to learn the new coaching staffs program.

2014 (1) Most of the defensive line will have to be replaced by freshmen or JUCO players. (2) All of the offensive line starters will have to be replaced by under classmen.

2015 - (1) All of our starters will have starting experience (2) We will have depth at all positions by then (3) bUTch will have 3 recruiting classes on campus by then. (4) The players will have grown up on bUTch's system and not have to learn Kiffin's, then Dooley's, then bUTch's.

Don't frustrate yourselves by realistically expecting more from the 117 or 118 teams.

It's why recruiting the trenches is so critical every year, Dooley was classic failure
