No worries! My first UT/Bama game was last year at age 26. So you've got me beat.

Mine was in 1982.......First time we had beat them in 11 years. It was so cool to see the team carry Johnny Majors across the field to shake Coach Bryant's hand. .:toast:

Have fun and go VOLS

My first was a 21-14 Freshmen Clausen victory over the Reds. At least I think that was the score, I know it was his first start.

Give them hell.

My first Vol-Tide game was the last time both teams wore their home jerseys. 1970 Vols smacking the red team 24-0. Scott Hunter, the red team QB, threw 8 int's to our NCAA record setting secondary. It was one of the most beautiful East Tennessee fall days of my lifetime with the Tennessee Orange and the red team with a perfect blue sky.

The next Saturday was just as awesome on a cloudy day in Neyland when we stomped the dog crap out of Tricky Doug Dickey and the Florida Gators, who had the two most hyped players in the country that year, WR Carlos Alvarez and QB John Reaves. Reaves just happens to be Layla Kiffin's father if IRC. The score at the end of that afternoon was an embarrassing 38-7 loss for the Mighty Gators. A game very thick with hype and drama since Dickey left UT after the previous season.

With the exception of a loss to Auburn in B'ham early in the season that was a very special year. Our greatest competition for the rest of the year was a stray dog that took over the show in our Sugar Bowl victory against Air Force. That dog got on the field and ran from end zone to end zone for over 10 minutes of prime ABC time. UT scored 5 TD's. the mutt scored 4 TD's, and Air Force only scored 2. Every time the dog scored the POTSB would strike up Down the Field and the crowd would go crazy.

As a followup to onevol74's remarks, Bobby Scott passed for a then-school record of roughly 385 yards in that 38-7 victory over the Lizards. That dog truly did sap our momentum in the Sugar Bowl; we led 24-0 in the first quarter before it broke free. We also had four fumble recoveries and four interceptions in that game (see 1971 Game Recap / Allstate Sugar Bowl). The 1970 team still holds the single-season record with 57 takeaways. Under the present format, that record would stand at an even more mindboggling total of 65.

Tis very sad that after the last four years we have to go so deep in the memory files to talk about greatness. I hope the kids of this generation can feel the true greatness of UT football and tradition again soon.
